Standing Rock Sioux Tribe is Hiring an Office Assistant-Indian Child Welfare Act Off Near Fort Yates, ND

SCOPE OF POSITION: The Office Assistant is responsible for administrative support functions necessary to ensure children receive advocacy, culturally appropriate representation and early permanency planning in accordance with the Indian Child Welfare Act of 1978 and amendments.

SUPERVISION: The Office Assistant will work under the direction of the ICWA Director, who will provide direction, guidance and conduct performance evaluations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Receives referrals and coordinates ICWA notices and cases in accordance with ICWA guidelines.
  • Maintain ICWA calendar of ICWA case court hearings and issue reminders and notices.
  • Maintain a record of incoming ICWA notices for reporting purposes.
  • Conducts verification of enrollment status of children, families and conduct relative searches in collaboration with SRST Tribal enrollment office.
  • Maintain ICWA files and records in a secure area.
  • Conduct inventory; order supplies and equipment as necessary.
  • Perform administrative errands to other departments or businesses as necessary.
  • Answer calls and route for response.
  • Complete other tasks within the Indian Child Welfare Act Office scope of work.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School or GED with one (1) year of documented work experience in an administrative, office support or related social service field.
  • Computer skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel) programs.
  • Competent in general office functions and efficient in office equipment (copy, fax, printer, scanner and telephone) operation.
  • Verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Customer service and professionalism; maintain tact, courtesy, composure and flexibility when dealing with a variety of personalities.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and meet insurability requirements.
  • Must pass required Tribal, State, & Federal Background Checks includes; fingerprinting, Drug and Alcohol Testing.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Effective knowledge of the Indian Child Welfare Act of 1978 and its amendments and ICWA/CPS program requirements.
  • Comply with Tribal Management systems, Title XVIII-Tribal Employees and SRST Personnel Policies and Procedures, Title XXVII-Employee Code of Ethics.
  • Obtain competency with applicable software applications as required.
  • Compliance with HIPPA requirements; secure and protect ICWA/CPS records from unauthorized disclosure
  • Familiarity with Tribal Law, culture, customs and sensitivity to a culturally diverse setting.
  • Strong work ethic, organizational skills, ability to multi-task, and capability to perform under demanding and stressful conditions.
  • Understand verbal and written instructions and request clarification when needed.
  • Sign a confidentiality statement with understanding of the penalties for any violations as it pertains to ICWA/CPS information.
  • Convey a professional appearance and environment that is consistent and expected with the level of responsibility.
