Overview: The road to college application completion is an intensive, multi-step process. In starting the application process early and in the summer before senior year, it allows students to complete critical milestones leading to early application completion. In completing applications early, students have the most time to explore colleges and make the best informed process. In order to support our students in this goal, we are offering a Summer College Prep Academy. This no-cost summer program offers meaningful opportunities to proactively help students complete their critical milestones with a trusted adult partner in the building during the summer.
Position Summary and Essential Job Functions: The Summer College Prep Academy Coordinator will lead the design, implementation and progress monitoring of the [high school]’s Summer College Prep Academy. This is an extraordinary opportunity for any [high school] staff who are results-driven and detail-oriented to step into leading a team. The ideal candidate will be passionate and innovative in developing a program around college access and college application completion.
Position Objectives: The College Prep Academy Coordinator will play an integral role in ensuring the program:
Enrolls recruits [insert goal] rising seniors
Maintains 80% student attendance
Leverages codified tools and resources
Produces positive student/staff feedback
Improves college application completion rates
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Program design and planning
Establish the vision, goals and format for programming
Select program dates and times, develop class lists schedules
Maintain a program budget
Coordinate supply orders, transportation, facilities, and food services
Organize program events, such as college campus visits
Staff Recruitment and Management
Conduct full College Prep Academy leadership team meeting, including team building, sharing timeline and schedules, discussing planning tasks, and assigning lesson/activity plans
Ensure each staff member develops lesson plans and materials for sessions
Student Recruitment and Family Communications
Collect and evaluate data from multiple sources to inform prioritized recruitment efforts
Develop and execute student recruitment plans and materials (including, but not limited to: application/registration forms, flyers, family email messages, social media posts, etc.)
Lead family and staff communication about enrollment procedures, programming content, logistics and expectations
Progress Monitoring
Manage student enrollment and build roster
Track students’ daily attendance
Maintain/ Update milestone completion in the RISE Data Hub
Collect feedback from students, families and staff to assess the program’s impact
Required Knowledge, Skills and Characteristics:
Expertise in both the college application process and the landscape of college access
Strong belief that all students can learn and achieve at high levels
Demonstrated understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, mental or physical disability, and religious background of all students, faculty and staff, and with all individuals encountered in the performance of required duties
Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication, particularly regarding group facilitation
Willingness to work collaboratively with an ability to engage in professional and productive interactions with a diverse range of stakeholders (staff, students, families, external partners, etc.)
Ability to master new content quickly
Ability to motivate and inspire students, families, and school staff
Strong critical thinking and data synthesis
Experience assessing and applying best practices at scale to drive results
Strong organizational, project management and computer skills (PowerPoint, Excel, and Google apps)
Strong sense of accountability and responsibility for results
Results-driven, self-motivated and detail-oriented
Positive attitude and sense of humor
Required Education and Experience:
Current [high school] educator, with experience with the college process strongly preferred
Fluency in Spanish preferred
