Job Title: Assistant Director of College and Career Readiness

Location: Department of Academic Programs

Pay Grade: Administrator and Professional Salary Grade A05

Work Calendar: All 12 Month Employees

FLSA Status: Exempt

GENERAL PURPOSE

The Assistant Director for College and Career Readiness, reporting to the Chief Academic Officer in the Department of Academic Programs, is responsible for the coordination of division initiatives that prepare students for college and careers. Included would be coordination and collaboration among departments to implement specialty centers, program pathways, student experiences, and advanced coursework offerings through dual enrollment and International Baccalaureate programs.

MAIN JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership and Coordination

  • Provide leadership and coordination on the design and implementation of specialty centers and program pathway offerings
  • Identify and address barriers to access for students to programs and experiences that improve college and career readiness
  • Facilitate stakeholder relations meetings to gather input for development and revision of secondary offerings
  • Coordinate the implementation of the lottery selection system, including reviewing, designing, and revising practices and policies, as necessary
  • Provide leadership and guidance to specialty center coordinators
  • Collaborate with content area coordinators, teachers, school counselors, and other stakeholders to design and implement program pathways that lead to enhanced postsecondary and career outcomes
  • Develop of strategic communications and resources to market and inform various stakeholders including parents, students, teachers, business partners, feeder schools, and the community
  • Coordinate curriculum development through collaboration with directors and coordinators

Data Analysis, Evaluation, and Reporting

  • Provide reporting and data analysis on secondary offerings that inform programmatic decisions
  • Provide implementation reports to the superintendent and school board
  • Provide implementation reports to school counselors, teachers, and various other staff as necessary
  • Collaborate with program evaluation staff, center and school-based leaders, and content area coordinators to evaluate effectiveness of program offerings

Advanced Coursework Program Coordination

  • Coordinate and lead efforts to expand dual enrollment offerings for students, including decisions regarding course offerings and professional learning opportunities for teachers and staff
  • Cultivate growth in the teacher pipeline for dual enrollment offerings
  • Serve as liaison to the community college system regarding dual enrollment offerings
  • Collaborate with community colleges to provide course offerings aligned with state graduation requirements and Virginia’s Passport and Uniform Certificate of General Studies
  • Coordinate and lead the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme
  • Collaborate with the International Baccalaureate school coordinator(s) to facilitate professional learning opportunities for teachers and staff

Grant and Special Project Coordination

  • Coordinate grant development with department staff in collaboration with the Assistant Director for Grants
  • Seek grants to support implementation and ongoing development of specialty centers and secondary offerings
  • Provide special project management for the Department of Academic Programs
  • Collaborate on the development of the Program of Studies

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required; master’s degree in education strongly preferred;
  • Administration and supervision endorsement preferred;
  • Valid Virginia Professional Licensed (Collegiate or Postgraduate) or eligibility for the same required;
  • Experience with coordination of advanced programs and coursework, development and implementation of college and career readiness pathways;
  • Experience directly planning, managing, and leading implementation of large-scale initiatives required;
  • Experience with lottery management systems and/or processes; and
  • Experience with grant writing and management preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Work environment is in an office, with low noise levels, temperatures that are controlled, and no exposure to chemicals or other negative air quality elements.
  • The work is light work, requiring exertion of up to 20 pounds of force to move or lift objects.
