St. Michael’s Catholic Preparatory School (formerly St. Michael’s Catholic Academy & St. Gabriel’s Catholic School) is an outstanding co-educational Independent Catholic school serving Pre-Kindergarten through 12th-grade students on two adjacent campuses in Austin, Texas. Summary of Position:

St. Michael’s Catholic Preparatory School seeks a dynamic, experienced, collaborative, and creative Middle School History Teacher for the 2024-2025 school year. The candidate must work well on a team, have excellent oral and written communication skills with colleagues and the community, and be a motivated, life-long learner. St. Michael’s Prep believes in teaching to the whole child, focusing on social and emotional development alongside a child’s academic progress. We know that children learn best and will take the necessary risks in the learning process when they feel confident, comfortable, and secure in their learning environment; therefore, we look to employ educators who value building relationships and teaching social and emotional skills in addition to providing excellent academic instruction. 

This middle school position entails teaching three 7th-grade classes and a section of 6th-grade history while serving as a grade-level advisor. The teacher must develop and deliver lessons showcasing enthusiasm for using technology to enrich classroom interactions and foster connections with the global community. This is a full-time, 10-month position that begins in August 2024.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that foster critical and independent thinking among students.
• Exhibit organizational skills, creativity, and a collaborative approach while working with colleagues from various curricular departments.
• Design a comprehensive program of study aligned with the PK-12th grade history curriculum, tailored to meet students' diverse needs, interests, and abilities.
• Utilize a variety of formative and summative assessments to gauge student understanding.
• Maintain effective communication channels with students, colleagues, and parents.
• Serve as a role model for colleagues in classroom management, teaching methodologies, and school protocols

Requirements

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

• A collaborative and curious approach to teaching and learning
• Bachelor’s degree required
• At least two years of teaching experience required
• Teaching experience in history in independent schools is preferred
• Experience as a student advisor is preferred
