The School: Founded in 1938, SMCDS is an independent day school serving children from toddler through grade eight. The school emphasizes strong academics and features a comprehensive arts program. Desired Qualifications: Candidates must have a passion for working with, and an
understanding of, the social, emotional, and intellectual development of this age
group. The ability to work collaboratively with a team of teachers, learning specialists, and administrators to design and implement curriculum, differentiate instruction to meet the needs of a wide range of students, and communicate effectively with parents and colleagues is expected.
· A bachelor’s degree is required.
· At least two years of successful teaching experience is strongly preferred.
· Knowledge of Singapore math and Responsive Classroom practices, and Writer’s Workshop is desirable.
· Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes learning and growth
· Provide instruction in various subjects, including math, language arts, science, and social studies
· Assess student progress and adjust teaching strategies accordingly
· Strong interpersonal, organizational, and management skills are essential to the role, as is a willingness to participate fully in the community beyond the classroom.
The Location: The school’s well-appointed 7-acre campus overlooks the Atlantic
Ocean and is situated in historic Newport, Rhode Island, minutes from some of
the most gorgeous beaches and coastal landscapes that New England has to offer. Newport and the beaches of Aquidneck Island are destination locations and teachers have the opportunity to integrate the geographic and cultural surroundings into their curricular programming. There are numerous universities and colleges close by, including, Salve Regina, University of Rhode Island, Brown, Rhode Island School of Design, Providence College and Roger Williams, adding to the cultural and intellectual climate of the area.
