St Mary University is Hiring a Director of Community Engagement Near San Antonio, TX

The Director for Community Engagement is responsible for developing and implementing a vision for co-curricular programs that advances the student experience and understanding of the Catholic and Marianist mission of St. Mary's University. The Office of Community Engagement designs and promotes programs grounded in Catholic Social Teaching that advance the mission and identity of the university. This position will also work alongside academic programs and faculty colleagues to intentionally integrate community-engaged learning into the institutional curriculum and create a culture of service on campus. Programs and activities sponsored by the Office of Community Engagement serve to influence Catholic faith formation and educate ethical leaders for the common good.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manages all facets of Community Engagement programs, including the strategic focus of existing opportunities and developing new initiatives, and supporting programs and agencies immediately surrounding the university and those with Catholic sponsorship. These programs include, but are not limited to, the Summer of Service program, service learning, volunteer and outreach programs, community partner and agency relations, faith-based immersion experiences, Continuing the Heritage day of service, and community-based college work-study.
  • Provides the necessary leadership to review all co-curricular civic engagement, service and community-engaged learning, and student leadership programs for organizational structure, achievement of departmental objectives, and mission effectiveness.
  • Collaborates with the Provost and Academic Deans and provide direct support to faculty to facilitate increased partnerships to deliver service and community-engaged learning courses, increase opportunities to reflect on service through the lens of Catholic Social Teaching, and adapt of existing courses to fully integrate service involvement into course learning objectives and activities.
  • Collaborates with the Office of Mission, University Ministry, the Marianist Leadership Program, Student Life, Residence Life, and other key campus partners to animate the mission and charism of the University into programming and institutional initiatives; serves on the Mission Council of the University and additional committees as requested.
  • Maintains and grows existing partnership with Holy Rosary Parish, to include providing oversight of the Summer of Service Program and collaborating on aligned initiatives.
  • Oversees EMPOWER (faith-based) immersion experiences, both domestic and international; provide training to faculty and staff leaders; accompany immersion student group when necessary/appropriate; may include serving as faculty for Humanities elective course focused on cross-cultural immersion experience
  • Develops and implements marketing strategies, including the marketing of events and services, the creation of marketing resources, website content and other publications, to include presentations on Community Engagement and Leadership, mission integration, faith-based service and immersion experiences, and educating student leaders for the common good.
  • Supports community partner agencies in alignment with the St. Mary's Catholic mission, specifically in the creation of community-engaged learning and agency partnerships, and providing assistance with the recruitment of student volunteers.
  • Serves as the Campaign Manager for the annual United Way Campaign, working close with the United Way representative and select internal and external community partners to increase knowledge of United Way programs and generate campaign participation.
  • Provides direction and leadership for department staff, including students and volunteers; develop and implement frameworks that ensure integration and efficiency of internal and external communication, information management, policy development and implementation, and workflow, as well as the technology needed to support community engagement activities.
  • Establishes and manages priorities, policies and procedures for data collection and management; provide institutional oversight of the GivePulse data management system and utilize data to support promotion of student engagement, including applications for Carnegie Re-Classification
  • Oversees departmental and program budgets and allocation of resources; provide support in researching, applying for, and managing civic engagement and service related grants, with the assistance of the office of University Development
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of related experience in an institution of higher education or the non-profit field is ideal.
  • Experience with or a strong aptitude for building partnerships or volunteer management/engagement are highly encouraged to apply.
  • Prior experience working with college student and faculty populations, service learning or other experiential education programs, including demonstrated understanding of Catholic Social Teaching, is required.
  • Must clear and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance
  • Must be able to work weekend, evening, and late hours are periodically necessary.
  • Must have valid driver's license, motor vehicle liability insurance and personal injury insurance; or have a self-reliant source of transportation to conduct business on a daily basis.
  • Must have the ability to demonstrate advanced skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, and outlook); experience with virtual meeting platforms such as zoom.
  • Must have ability to clearly and concisely communicate information graphically, verbally, and in writing to diverse audiences including institutional leadership, faculty and staff, and external constituencies; strong public relations and customer service skills with an ability to implement diplomacy and discretion at all times; ability to work effectively with communities across the university.
  • Must have high ethical standards and a strong sense of confidentiality; ability to prioritize and manage multiple deadlines; thrive in a complex work environment; display solid problem solving and interpersonal skills; work well independently and as part of a team.
  • Must have a high attention to detail and be able to organize workflow, coordinate activities, balance simultaneous projects without loss of efficiency in a multi-tasked environment, and manage multiple priorities to meet deadlines.
  • Actively supports the delivery of services and programs within the framework of the Marianist mission: educating for formation of faith; providing an integral, quality education; educating in family spirit; educating for service justice and peace; and educating for adaptation and change.
  • Excellent and efficient communication skills, orally and in writing, with internal and external audiences.
  • Bilingual Preferred (English/Spanish with the ability to understand and to make one's self understood to Spanish speaking individuals).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Working conditions are in an office environment and university campus setting. Must be able to move across the university campus to conduct day to day business.
  • While performing this role, the employee will be regularly required to sit, walk, and stand; talk and hear, both in person and by telephone; and use hands repetitively to operate standard office equipment; and occasionally required to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Frequently communicates with others using approved technological resources; must be able to exchange accurate information through designated systems within a timely manner.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery.
