St. Louis County is Hiring a Cook Near MO, MO

Saint Louis County Department of Human Services is looking for a Part-time Cook. This position is starting at $15.00 per hour. The hours are from 11:00am – 7:00pm on Friday and Saturday (16 hours per week). There will be an occasion where the 16 hours will be spread over Friday, Saturday and Sunday.This position is responsible for preparing and serving meals, maintaining food preparation and serving areas, receiving and storing food supplies for a medium size kitchen in a shelter. Must ensure that the kitchen and dining area remain clean at all times and must maintain Health Department standards for cleanliness in the kitchen and dining facility. Must have experience utilizing industrial kitchen equipment and utensils. This position is located at the Kathy J. Weinman Domestic Violence Shelter.  Prepares a variety of meats, poultry, fish, fruits and vegetables by washing, peeling, slicing, cutting and tenderizing.Cooks a variety of meats, poultry, fish, fruits and vegetables by baking, broiling, frying and grilling using preplanned menus and recipes.Cleans preparation areas and food storage areas by wiping counters and tables, washing pots and pans, utensils and kitchen equipment. Receives and checks food supplies; stores food supplies in cold storage, freezer or pantry; retrieves supplies from storage and maintains inventory of food supplies, using the FIFO method.Serves hot and cold dishes. Performs other duties as assigned. Graduation from High School or equivalent and one year of experience working in a large scale institution cooking or any equivalent combination of training and experience SELECTION AND APPOINTMENT: A selection committee will evaluate the qualifications of each applicant which will include recentness and appropriateness of the applicant's education and experience, answers to the supplemental questions, results of employment references investigated and any other appropriate information available. The selection committee will admit to the interview only those persons who possess the most job related qualifications and may establish admittance criteria beyond the minimum qualifications stated above. The interview will comprise 100% of the applicant's earned grade. A candidate must earn a qualifying grade of 70 or more on the interview to be eligible for appointment. After initial interviews with the selected candidates are conducted, an email will be sent to the address on file with instructions on how to complete and submit a Conviction Questionnaire. Candidates have 3 days to complete the required questionnaire.  The five top ranking candidates, based on the final grade, will be certified to the Department Director/Appointing Authority who will make the final decision. All applicants conditionally offered a merit position will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Screening will be performed by a reputable clinical laboratory. The cost of screening will be covered by the County.
