- Assists in the care, treatment and management of residents with pulmonary disorders, which includes assessing the respiratory status in relation to mechanical ventilation support determine adequate or impaired function. Collects sputum and breath specimens to determine levels of oxygen and carbon dioxide.
- Assists with clinic visits by accompanying residents to all pulmonary clinics and other clinics as needed, communicating relevant information to appropriate staff and family members based on the results of the visit, and documenting in the resident progress notes. Assesses and interprets pulmonary evaluations and tests results; determines therapy treatment plan in consultation with physicians.
- Responsible for administering inhalants, operating mechanical ventilators, therapeutic gas apparatuses, environmental control systems and aerosol generators. Administers respiratory therapy and treatments, including performing broncho-pulmonary drainage and breathing exercises. Monitors physiological responses to therapy and evaluates effectiveness.
- Responsible to identify, properly report, and document pertinent medical information thoroughly, accurately, and timely; including unusual incidents and major unusual incidents. Reports pertinent information regarding individuals to appropriate team members as well as the Clinical Services Supervisor.
- Completes monthly respiratory assessments on all ventilator residents and quarterly assessments on all other residents requiring routine respiratory interventions.
