St Joseph County ISD is Hiring an INFORMATION SERVICES SYSTEMS SPECIALIST INTERN (This position is for the 23-24 school year) Near Centreville, MI

SUMMARY

An IS Support Specialist Intern specializes in an area of application support, hardware/network support and Internet services support. The specialist will install, modify, repair, diagnose and research hardware, software and Internet systems that support the educational environment. Support various operating systems, Windows, MacOS, iOS, Android, Linux, ChromeOS and web based applications. Provide technical assistance and support local districts instructional technology needs.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • High School and/or college class experience in Information Systems or relevant experience.
  • Highly motivated individual that will take initiative to keep systems and end users working at peak efficiency
  • Effective organizational and communication skills
  • Excellent customer service and interaction skills
  • Team player
  • Educational environment work experience preferred

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Valid state driver’s license, a good driving record required and a reliable method of transportation. A and Network certifications preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from individuals or groups. Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communications.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Document/demonstrate current knowledge of desktop computers, peripheral equipment, database management, word processing, spreadsheets and open systems technology required. Demonstrate knowledge of PC basics, including technical terminology and acronyms and working knowledge of PC systems and peripheral connectivity. Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and demonstrate effective time management skills to meet deadlines. Strong teamwork, interpersonal communication and group problem solving skills. Ability to travel to and from work sites. Ability to work a flexible workday and workweek. Ability to exercise good judgment and make decisions in accordance with policies and procedures. Ability to read, understand, and apply information in hardware/software manuals or following computer instructions. Ability to work as part of a highly motivated, interdisciplinary team. Demonstrate experience in setting up, maintaining, and troubleshooting electronics equipment and networks.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to operate a computer, view video display terminals; reach with hands and arms; sit, use hands and fingers to grip, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; talk and hear. Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to fifty pounds. (ie: printers, CPUs, monitors, servers, etc.) Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. Able to operate a personal motor vehicle.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Maintain absolute confidentiality regarding the information being processed, stored or accessed by the network. Demonstrate unquestionable integrity when dealing with all district personnel.
  2. Provide support for the Repair Depot on testing and repairing devices.
  3. Work closely with IS Support Specialists in assisting with basic tasks and ticket requests.
  4. Update the end user with status of repair by voice mail, email or in-person communication.
  5. Assist with inventory updates and corrections alongside with IS Support Specialist.
  6. Recommends or performs minor remedial actions to correct end user problems.
  7. Coordinates activities with IS Service Team Members.
  8. Test software updates to ensure correct functionality and to keep informed of changes in software.
  9. Adhere to IS Services team decisions in proper operation, installation and procedures agreed to in standards throughout the schools in the county.
  10. Coordinate with other IS Team members to coordinate local districts coverage.
  11. Work with the IS Network Team to resolve issues within local districts.
  12. Must have regular and reliable job attendance, performance, and the physical ability to do the job.
  13. Required to have a physical presence at the designated job site each scheduled work day.
  14. Other duties as assigned by IS Services Team and/or Director of Information Services.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and conditions of employment are determined by the Board of Education.
