ST. JOSEPH ACADEMY is Hiring a Media Coordinator Near Baton Rouge, LA

St. Joseph's Academy is an all-girls Catholic high school in Baton Rouge, LA. Our mission is to educate young women as responsible and unifying members of the world community. In the spirit and charism of the Sisters of St. Joseph, St. Joseph's Academy offers opportunities for faith development in the Catholic tradition, academic excellence and personal growth.
The ideal candidate must have a bachelor’s degree and experience in communications, media or digital arts and technology and should enjoy working with high school students. Some night and weekend events will be included. While the desired start date is immediate, there is some flexibility should the ideal candidate be unavailable until August 2024. 

POSITION SUMMARY The Media Coordinator works to provide leadership and be a resource for the implementation of the school’s media program, classes and events in a manner that supports the mission, goals and objectives of the school. The Media Coordinator plays a pivotal role in SJA’s communication strategies and creates content for areas of the school’s communication program. The coordinator must possess excellent communication and organizational skills working with students, faculty, staff and the broader community. Previous experience/knowledge of live streaming preferred.

  • Works closely with the Media Arts Department, Communications Department and administration to ensure all print, digital and streaming events are successful.
  • Supports and promotes St. Joseph’s Academy by being visible to the SJA community at various meetings, events and functions.
  • Develops a budget for events that require videoing or streaming.
  • Develops a journalism curriculum to include print and digital media, broadcasting and podcasting.
  • Participates as a member of the Art department.
  • Events must reflect the mission and values of St. Joseph’s Academy and adhere to the school’s policies, guidelines and procedures.
  • This is a full-time position, including weekend and evening work as needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS JOURNALISM TEACHER: Print, Broadcast and Digital MediaThis course offers students the opportunity to be critical viewers, consumers and producers of media. Students enrolled in this course will apply and use their journalistic skills for a variety of purposes, such as newswriting, reporting, broadcasting, producing, videography/photography, podcasting, layout and design, social media and editing.
  • Plan and implement teaching and learning in all areas of journalism mentioned above.
  • Design curriculum content for journalism course.
  • Research, develop and implement school’s broadcasting program.
  • Select and provide access to a wide variety of materials which meet the needs of various learning situations.
  • Inventory, research and order needed equipment.
  • Explore grant opportunities for start-up costs.
  • Promote journalism courses to interested students.
MEDIA ARTS TEACHER (only if an additional teacher is needed)This course offers students the opportunity to explore arts elements, principles of design and arts benchmarks through a variety of traditional and digital media. The areas of digital photography, digital art and video production will be explored.
  • Preferred knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud Suite
COORDINATOR OF STREAMING PROGRAM
  • SJABR TV Club moderator
  • Solicits input from faculty/staff/students concerning media needs
  • Create student Podcast project
CONTENT CREATOR (video)
  • Attend events (including some nights and weekends) to photograph, video and/or stream for use in promotion of SJA.
  • Create and edit video reels for use by communication department.
  • Train students to provide photographs, videos and streaming to communications department for use in promotion of SJA.
KIOSK
  • Update and maintain information on SJA kiosks.
OTHER
  • Stream/video events as needed including those on nights and weekends.
  • Works with the Communications Department as needed.
  • Implements special projects as needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in media or mass communications.
  • Excellent communication skills, including writing, proofreading, editing and speaking.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and work assignments.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills both in person and by phone, with high professionalism.
  • Video editing and streaming experience preferred.
