Primary Purpose
The position coordinates and provides comprehensive new student support to ensure student success
from first semester through program graduation. Specifically, this position supervises the Student
Center (except Bookstore) which includes monitoring the conduct of students and visitors; organizing
and maintaining recreational games and equipment; monitoring campus functions in extended hours;
assisting with registration; coordinating food services; facilitating communication between students and
Administration; advising the Student Government Association; and organizing special events and
activities for students. The position will oversee all campus programming including orientation, campus
tours, the registration process for all student organizations, and the supervision of the policies,
procedures, and events of all chartered student organizations.
Performs other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned or directed.

Description of Duties and Tasks
Essential Job Functions
1. Supervise the Student Center. This includes monitoring conduct of students and visitors in
the Student Center, reporting emergency situations to appropriate College administrators or
staff, organizing recreational games, ordering equipment and repairs to equipment as
needed, maintaining bulletin boards in and around Student Center, providing general
information to students and public, and coordinating food services (snack bar and vending).
2. Create strategies for engaging students from first contact to graduation.
3. Assists students with learning new student orientation activities including registration,
financial aid, college services and academic programming.
4. Coordinate and participate in the campus tour program to engage potential students.
5. In coordination with the Offices of Academic and Student Affairs, oversee the development
and maintenance of the online and on-campus orientation content, including a
comprehensive pre- and post- online orientation experience for transfer students. In
addition, the coordinator will be knowledgeable in technologies that support orientation
functions.
6. Presents orientation sessions, ensures understanding of, and ability to use, MySJRState and
uses technology to keep students informed of dates, events, and actions.
7. Oversee and coordinate the Student Ambassador program.
8. Facilitate communication between students and appropriate College administrators,
departments, and staff.
9. Assist in the coordination, development, and implementation of various departmental and
college wide events, including, but not limited to Week of Welcome, Spring Fling/Fall Frolics,
and Commencement. This includes facility logistics and making presentations.
10. Organize and coordinate special activities for students. This includes but is not limited to
intramural sports, tournaments, special requests from faculty and speakers (i.e., Black
History Month).
11. Coordinate campus club activities and keep an activities calendar for the Campus. This
includes assisting with requisitions and other record keeping needs and ensuring campus
events are recorded on the College calendar.
12. Advise the activities of the Student Government Association including elections, meetings,
activities, finances, and coordination with other campus organizations and clubs.
13. Recruit and lead training for leadership development for club officers and advisors
14. Assist with club registration procedures in organizing and maintaining a smooth traffic flow
of students through the registration process, greeting and assisting students, monitoring
and assisting staff responsible for entering data.
15. Supervise and accompany SGA and club students to local, regional, state, and national
conferences which may include overnight travel.
16. Develop, prepare, and edit a variety of documents, forms, and operational procedures for
the Student Activities Office, which may also include, but is not limited to statistical reports,
brochures, pamphlets, flyers, newsletters, agendas, manuals, event programs, invitations,
and posters. Coordinate the dissemination and posting of publications related to student
clubs, activities, and affairs to students, staff, and the community.
17. Monitor budgets, maintain a variety of records regarding student activities and SGA
budgets, maintain accurate budget balances, records, statements and accounts; prepare
reports as needed or requested; review and audit financial transactions made by student
organizations on campus. Approve student requisitions and purchase orders.
18. Maintain appropriate contact with existing club advisors; promote the creation and
development of new clubs and identification of new club advisors among existing personnel;
develop and offer orientation meetings for new club members and advisors. Update and
maintain student advisor handbook as required.
19. Spearhead yearly campus awards ceremony to include collecting nominations for awards,
create invitations, programs, and awards certificates, secure facilities reservations and setup,
and coordinate reception afterwards.
20. Provides lead work guidance and assists in scheduling student workers. Supervise student
workers to ensure completeness, accuracy, and conformance with college/departmental
standards. Provides information, guidance and training on work processes and technical
procedures.
Marginal Job Functions
1. Serve on College committees as assigned.
2. Represent the College at various community agency meetings as required by College
Administration.
3. Serve as a liaison with college administration, academic personnel, and students as well as
community agencies, organizations, professionals, vendors, and other colleges to provide
community contacts for resources and referrals.
4. Assist with graduation ceremonies, as required.
5. Aid various departments with special events and tours on Campus.
6. Some weekend, early morning, evening hours and travel are required for this position.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
1. Ability to read the English language sufficiently to process all paperwork required.
2. Superior English language writing skills for completion of various written paperwork including but
not limited to drafting correspondence, record keeping, report writing, filing, etc.
3. Sufficient manual dexterity to be able to operate all office equipment including, but not limited to,
computers, fax machine, copy machines, and telephones.
4. Ability to receive telephone calls from the public and responds to inquiries and communicates with
co-workers and others by telephone.
5. Ability to speak in front of large groups and be heard and understood.
6. Ability to perform the entire above essential job functions, with minimal direct supervision, within
four weeks after the employee begins work.
7. Knowledge of the College’s mission, purpose, and goals and the role of the Student Activities
Coordinator in achieving them.
8. Knowledge of all student services available at St. Johns River State College.
9. Knowledge of or ability to learn relevant computer programs used (e.g., Microsoft Office, Banner).
10. Ability to organize large events and coordinate large groups of people.
11. Ability to drive college vehicles (including 15 passenger vans) and possess a valid Florida Driver’s
license with an acceptable driving record.
Ergonomic Requirements
This position requires the ability to grasp, lift and/or carry equipment weighing a maximum of thirty
pounds. It also requires bending, stooping, kneeling, and walking significant distances between
buildings and parking lots carrying equipment and supplies. Many of the functions are performed
standing and must have the ability to stand for up to three hours at a time. Tasks such as working at a
computer keyboard may require extensive wrist and hand movements.
Qualification Standards
1. Education – Bachelor’s Degree in related field, Master’s preferred.
2. Experience – A minimum of two years’ experience with student activities at the college level,
preferred.
Note: Comparable specialized training or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
