Job Description: The Logic School Science Teacher will serve as the lead science teacher to our Logic School (6th, 7th and 8th Grade) Scholars during our 2023-2024 Academic year. This individual should exude a fire and excitement for teaching Science and will serve as a mentor to other teachers within the building. The Logic School Science Teacher should be a master of project based learning within the Science classroom. 

The teacher serves the mission of the Catholic Church by planning, guiding, and evaluating the learning process of the scholars within the framework of the Academy's philosophy, organization, and curriculum. The teacher provides the appropriate learning atmosphere and activities designed to maximize scholar competencies and skills for intellectual, emotional, physical, social, and spiritual growth. The teacher has decision making responsibilities in keeping with Academy policies and the Diocesan Schools Administrative Manual. 

The ideal candidate would have experience teaching elementary school and possess knowledge of Classical teaching. A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field is required.

Requirements

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate mastery of project based learning within the Science classroom. 
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm for teaching Science. 
  • Serve as a mentor for other teachers to provide guidance in Science pedagogy. 
  • Assist the principal and academic dean in selection and implementation of Science curriculum. 
  • Oversee two Community Garden beds on the St. Regis Academy campus. 
  • Seek and implement opportunities for scholars to grow and develop in STEM fields. 
  • Manage the class by setting clear expectations of behavior, establishing reasonable routines, and promoting self-discipline based on Catholic principles.
  • Teach scholars in a challenging, creative, enthusiastic and age-appropriate manner using the Classical model. Ensure that, within the year, the scope and sequence of concepts and skills assigned to the grade are taught to the scholars.
  • Apply Catholic moral principles and comply with the school policy in administration of behavioral discipline in the classroom. Communicate clearly, frequently, and regularly to parents about discipline issues regarding their children.
  • Evaluate each scholar’s progress on a regular basis and report that progress to the scholar, parents, and principal.
  • Respond expediently to parent, scholar, or administrator with concerns and ideas.
  • Assure that all classroom equipment and materials are safe and well-maintained.
  • Serve as an advocate for St. Regis Academy, as well as Classical education, in the Kansas City area.
  • Stay current on the best practices in education and teaching, particularly with regard to Classical education, in order to provide academic excellence.
  • Actively involve parents in the life of the Academy and coordinate classroom volunteers.
  • Supervise scholars during assigned duties at lunch, recess, and/or before and after school.
  • Serve on committees and perform other duties as directed by the Principal
  • Collaborate with peers to enhance the work environment and support instructional planning
  • Demonstrate gains in student performance that are in keeping with Academy goals
  • Demonstrate a willingness to respond to individual learning needs 
  • Attend school-wide functions and special events as required
  • Maintain professionalism in written and oral language as well as dress and hygiene
  • Support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic education, Code of Conduct, policies, procedures and the mission of the Academy
  • Practicing Catholic in good standing is preferred, but not required.
  • Act as a witness to the Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
  • Support and adhere to the Code of Conduct and policies and procedures of the Academy and Diocese
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding Academy mattersB
  • Use a variety of formative and summative assessments
  • Conference with parents upon request and responds to messages in a timely manner
  • Demonstrate professional work habits by regular attendance, honoring schedules/deadlines, organizing work, and conducting assigned tasks in an effective and efficient manner
  • Keep the Principal informed of areas of need and concern

Qualifications

Candidates for faculty positions at St. Regis Academy must:

  • Exemplify and articulate a life of faith in Christ.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to be trained in Classical educational methods.
  • Be in agreement with the philosophy of St. Regis Academy as articulated in the Vision Statement.
  • Be willing to cooperate with and support the policies of the school administration (pastor and principal)
  • Be passionate about educating scholars in a Catholic environment, and about the grade/subject to be taught. Experience is preferred but not required.
  • Be willing to work closely with parents in the education of their scholars.
  • Be committed to academic excellence.
  • Be committed to continuing, lifelong learning.
  • Possess a Bachelor’s Degree and a current teaching certificate (or obtain certification within three years of hire).
