POSITION SUMMARY

SCC is looking for a Full-time Accommodations Specialist. Responsible for coordinating specific accommodations including alternative formats, note taking assistance, adaptive furniture, captioning/interpreting services, and flexibility requests. Assists the Disability Support Manager in approving and updating accommodations for students each semester. Maintains the Assistive Technology lab and trains students with disabilities in the use of assistive technology.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other Duties may be assigned.

  • Participates in the interactive process with students to determine their eligibility for accommodations and other support services.
  • Analyzes disability documentation including medical documentation, psychological assessments, self-reports and/or other relevant information to determine eligibility for appropriate and reasonable academic accommodations.
  • Supports students in resolving disability-related issues that may be a barrier to academic success. Refers students to appropriate campus and community support services.
  • Coordinates the provision of alternative formats and accessible materials to students including but not limited to textbooks, external vendors, and ensuring timely conversion of Braille materials.
  • Maintains a list of adaptive furniture on campus. Checks for placement of furniture as needed each semester.
  • Coordinates the provision of flexibility accommodations, including communication with instructors and the creation of Flexibility Agreements each semester for students with this accommodation.
  • Coordinates the provision of note taking accommodations for eligible students including the recruitment and training of note takers. Maintains regular communication with assigned notetakers and eligible students to ensure that the process is operating smoothly.
  • Coordinates the provision of captioning and interpreting services for eligible students including the scheduling of vendors. Communicates with instructors, staff, and vendors regarding captioning and interpreting needs each semester.
  • Maintains the DSS website and portal pages and makes appropriate changes with DSS Manager consultation.
  • Communicates with the DSS database representatives for system updates and customization. Creates and runs reports to assist in enrollment and case management.
  • Keeps current with new adaptive technology software, hardware, and research new AT suitable for implantation on campus.
  • Assists students with learning the adaptive technology that is available on campus and that is available for free on their personal devices.
  • Maintains a record of AT this is checked out each semester by eligible students.
  • Scans exams for use with AT and proctors/scribes exams as needed in the DSS Testing Center.
  • Other duties as assigned to support the DSS daily functions.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

Associates degree required or equivalent experience working in Disability Support. Knowledge of technology accommodations for the disabled and excellent communication skills required.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP

Generally, reports to the Disability Support Services Manager
