Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Director of Prevention Services and in collaboration with colleagues on the treatment team the Social Worker participates in the planning and delivery of evidenced based clinical services and assures fidelity to the particular evidenced based model in terms of service delivery.

Duties & Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide evidenced-based clinical services to children and family as delineated and prescribed in the treatment planning process. The clinical components of these services will include completion of the assessment format, negotiation with clients as to the types of intervention that will be deployed, the time and place parameters of the service delivery, schedules for Service Plan Reviews and projected time frame for discharge from services.

  • Provide accurate and thorough documentation of client contacts via the New York State Connections system and with the specific St. Catherine’s AWARDS system.

  • Provide individual counseling, couple counseling and family counseling as prescribed by the treatment team.

  • Follow Albany County and St. Catherine’s requirements for frequency of contacts and for place of contacts as described in the Albany County DCYF and St. Catherine’s contract.

  • Clinician will adhere to the CASSP Core Principles, affirming a client’s right to self determination and full involvement with the treatment team in terms of developing service goals and consumer friendly methods for attaining these goals; assuring that services are child centered, family focused, culturally competent and community based.

  • Chair Service plan reviews as needed.

  • Maintain regular contact with relevant agency staff and other community agencies providing services to families.

  • This position will have full and complete access to client Protected Health Information (PHI) in order to carry out the duties and responsibilities for this position.

  • Additional position-related duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor/ director.

Organizational Relationships:

  • Collaborates with staff across all agency programs to ensure quality environments and adherence to regulations.

  • Meets bi-weekly with Associate Executive Director of Clinical Services for clinical supervision

  • Serves on Agency committees as requested by Director of Prevention Services.

Position Specifications:

  • Master’s degree in Social Work from an accredited university social work program (M.S.W.) or related field, required.

  • Must have a clean and valid New York State driver’s license; be actively licensed for at least one year, and have a reliable (fully insured) vehicle for transporting clients to appointments as needed - with proof of 100/300 liability coverage.

  • Previous experience working in a human services agency is a plus!

  • Proficiency in various computer applications: Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Business Workspace Suite (Gmail, Google Sheets, Docs, Meet, etc.), and the Internet.

  • Experience with AWARDS a plus!

  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and, at times, stressful environment.

  • Ability to handle sensitive data with strict confidentiality.

  • Self-motivated and engaged, a strong attention to detail with excellent writing aptitude.

  • Ability to pass required pre-employment background checks, to include fingerprinting.

Essential Functions:

  • Ability to relate to many staff members with various backgrounds such as Child Care Coordinators, Supervisors, and program Directors.

  • Ability to understand and relate to severely traumatized children.

  • Excellent organization, planning and time management skills.

  • Ability to adapt to change while performing a variety of tasks required such as preventive tasks, replacements and improvements.

  • Ability and willingness to maintain up to date information regarding standards and mandates set by St. Catherine’s Center for Children, and the New York State Office of Child and Family Services, and other regulatory bodies.

  • Ability to objectively review critical incidents and identify areas for improvement.

  • Ability to provide a supportive response to staff after a critical incident.

  • Ability to collaborate on a peer level.

  • Must be able to perform well under crisis conditions, with the capacity to carry out Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) strategies.

  • Ability to make home visits to client homes, and other on-site contacts with referring agencies, collaborative agencies, foster homes, etc.

  • Flexibility to work hours outside of regularly scheduled work hours, within reason.

  • Value a nurturing family as the ideal environment for a person; and have confidence in the principle that people have the capacity to grow and change at their own pace and motivation.

  • Ability to communicate with a wide range of people, including those who are culturally and socio-economically diverse, as well as people with various developmental and functional levels.

  • Capable of conducting oneself in a manner that is becoming of an employee of St. Catherine’s Center for Children.

  • Ability to organize and effectively manage, in a timely fashion, the varied tasks of the position.

  • Ability and conceptualizations necessary to embrace and work effectively within a therapeutic-based program.

  • The ability to establish a respectful relationship with persons served to help them gain skills and confidence, empowering them to solve their own problems.

  • Ability to work effectively in a shared decision-making model as a team member, and work collaboratively with other personnel and service providers or professionals.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build strong working relationships with regulatory bodies.

  • The capacity to maintain a helping role and to intervene appropriately to assist in meeting service goals, while setting appropriate limits.

  • Ability to exercise ethical, independent judgment and discretion.

  • This position has full and complete access to client Protected Health Information (PHI) in order to carry out the required duties and responsibilities. The ability to process and actively protect client protected health information and maintain strict client confidentiality is essential.
