As a Nurse at St. Andre, you will work with our nursing team in collaboration with other departments to enhance the lives of your residents while following the Mission and Core Values of our organization.

We are currently seeking a Nurse to support our overnight shift. We support our staff with both flexible hours and shifts.

Appropriate candidates will have current R.N. or L.P.N. licensure (in good standing) and a desire to make a difference to those around them.

The primary purpose of your job position is to provide direct nursing care on the unit, to distribute medications, and to supervise the day to day nursing activities performed by the Med Tech and C.N.A. staff. Your work must be in accordance with current Federal, State and local standards, guidelines and regulations that govern our facility, and as may be directed by the ACC and the Director of Clinical Services to ensure the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times. The ACC has the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary for carrying out your assigned duties.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assure that the written policies and procedures that govern the day to day functions of the nursing department are followed by all nursing personnel assigned to you..
  • Implementation of the policies and procedures are followed by staff rendering care.
  • Cooperate with other resident services when coordinating nursing services to ensure that the residents total regime of care is followed.
  • Monitor that staff follow their job descriptions and Assess skills of the C.N.A.s on your unit.
  • Assist with updating C.N.A. job description periodically.
  • Perform Administrative duties as needed such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, charting etc.
  • Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive emphasis throughout the unit.
  • Attend staff meetings on a regular basis.
  • Assist with discharge planning as needed.
  • Participate in survey process made by government agencies.
  • Review and evaluate your unit on a regular basis and make recommendations to the ACC.
  • Make oral reports and suggestions to the ACC, as necessary concerning the operation of the nursing unit.
  • Implement and oversee resident care plans.
  • Assist with the admission process
  • Assure that all medical records are up to date and in compliance.
  • Make daily resident visits on your unit
  • Review charts for completeness periodically.
  • Monitor timeliness of physician visits.
  • Monitor medications passes on your unit.
  • Provide direct nursing care as needed
  • Report problems or potential problems to the ACC.
  • Keep ACC aware of resident conditions.
  • Meet with residents and families as needed.
  • Consult with physicians
  • Monitor ill residents
  • Inform families of change in residents conditions.
  • Monitor for appropriate storage and control of medications on your unit.
  • Work with consultants to coordinate care.
  • Encourage resident participation in care planning.
  • Inform all staff of resident plans of care.
  • Review nurses note for implementation of the plan of care.
  • Assisting in training new staff.
  • Inform staff of proper infection control procedures.
  • Investigate incidents and accidents and File incident reports
  • Assume the functions of the unit when the ACC is absent.
  • Notify ACC of medication discrepancies.
  • Monitor medications for automatic stop orders
  • Delegate assignments to the C.N.A. staff
  • Give and receive report at the beginning and end of the shift.
  • Perform treatments for residents
  • Develop plans of care for residents.
  • Serve on, participate in and attend various committees of the facility as required and appointed by the ACC.

SAFETY AND SANITATION/ENVIRONMENTAL

  • Follow established safety precautions in the performance of all duties
  • Use standard precautions
  • Report to Director of Plant Operations or Supervisor any hazardous condition or equipment immediately
  • Participate in all mandatory safety in services
  • Participate in environmental, recycling and/or waste initiatives implemented in the facility

  • Ensure that you treat all residents fairly, and with kindness, dignity, and respect. Review the resident rights completely, some rights include, but are not limited to the following:
  • The right to participate in care decisions and address residents by their name of choice.
  • Ensure that all nursing care is provided with privacy, so be sure to knock before entering the resident’s room.
  • The right to the doctor of one’s choice.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITY

  • Must be a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Maine.
  • Must be able to write the English language in a legible and understandable manner.
  • Ability to operate basic office machines and computer software.
  • Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, and the general public.
  • Must possess the ability and willingness to work harmoniously with professional and non-professional personnel.
  • Must be willing to seek out new methods and principals and be willing to incorporate them into existing practices.
  • Must maintain CPR certification.
