Job Description

Portfolio Management (Middle Market & Enterprise)

The Portfolio Management (PM) team is responsible for managing credit risk of the largest Square sellers either by exposure or by revenue, as well as challenging credits that require close monitoring and frequent interactions with senior leaders.

Job Description

You will will perform regular credit risk reviews by incorporating in-depth financial analysis, as well as thorough research on management, industry, and the overall macroeconomic environment.

With a forward-looking view on how a merchant’s profile might look in the coming year, you will determine the credit risk to Square, and make the appropriate recommendations.

Additionally, you will collaborate with cross-functional partners such as Sales and Account Management and Policy to provide a seamless seller experience while ensuring appropriate risk assessment and controls.

Lastly, you will take every opportunity to improve our operations and our people by helping us create better solutions to assess risk and support our sellers.

You will :

  • Conduct in-depth financial statement analysis and reviews for our most strategic and high-risk sellers, including drawing internal data when available and preparing credit memorandums for approval by senior management.
  • Lead risk conversations with sellers to ensure that key risks are fully understood and mitigated, and manage difficult conversations with seller management teams.
  • Present Credit Risk recommendations to cross-functional partners, including senior management, and provide context and rationale for recommendations to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develop partnerships with Sales and Account Management teams to ensure underwriting, onboarding, and account management processes are timely, seamless, and well-understood.
  • Identify and execute on high-level initiatives aimed at improving our portfolio management processes at scale.
  • Contribute to the continued development of credit policies and lead the testing of new risk management tools.

Qualifications

  • 4 years of experience in commercial banking, credit, or payment industries
  • Exceptional underwriting and financial statement analysis skills
  • Comfort with diverse risk management tools and techniques
  • Excellent professional communications skills
  • Strong critical thinking skills - ability to solve problems logically with imperfect information
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and able to self-manage to ensure highest-priority work is completed
  • Ability to prioritize based on qualitative and quantitative impact, and drive strategic initiatives from scoping to implementation with little to no oversight
  • BA / BS in a related field
  • Bonus SQL skills

Additional Information

Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. U.S. locations are categorized into one of four zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area.

The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions.

These ranges may be modified in the future.

Zone A : USD $83,900 - USD $125,900

Zone B : USD $78,100 - USD $117,100

Zone C : USD $71,400 - USD $107,000

Zone D : USD $63,000 - USD $94,400
