Job Overview
As the Café Manager for your store, you will be tasked with ensuring that all daily operations are organized and clear for your Team Members. You will take part in the full Team Member life cycle, from interviewing/hiring to onboarding/terminations, as well as scheduling shifts and managing shift changes. You will also be accountable for making timely bank deposits, managing the point-of-sale system (POS), monitoring daily labor levels/revenues/expenses, ordering supplies, and much more. Ultimately you will help drive store profitability, and Team Member engagement, and turn our Café into a favorite local spot, in the community.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Guest services and engagement. You are tasked with providing exceptional guest services to those who visit your Café, from welcoming guests in a friendly/professional manner to assisting them in item selection and elevating their knowledge of our diverse product offerings whenever possible. This will require an in-depth understanding of our products, especially seasonal items, and ensuring that Team Members are also knowledgeable on changes being implemented. You will also be tasked with providing timely, friendly, and accurate engagement with guests who reach out via email or phone to your Cafe. Ultimately you will be a champion for guest relationship building.
  • Daily operation leadership. You will engage and manage Team Members on the shift, to ensure that items produced are beautifully crafted and in line with Company standards, as well as ensuring items are produced in an effective and efficient manner. You will be tasked with managing daily/weekly shift scheduling, call-outs, tardies, etc., to ensure that daily labor and revenue goals are met. This will require an understanding of our scheduling processes, as well as how mealtimes, overtime, and breaks work.
  • Team Member hiring and training. You will be tasked with engaging and owning the full Team Member life cycle for your Department. From owning the recruitment process (job posts, interviews, onboarding), to Team Member elevation through hands-on coaching. Building a robust and multi skillset Team, to help identify, cultivate, and elevate top talent to new leadership seats as they become available.
  • Work environment organization. Keeping workspace clean and organized, according to local state and city health department and FairWave policies and regulations. Holding Team Members accountable where necessary for not following proper food/beverage safety protocols, cleaning tasks, equipment management, or FairWave documentation requirements for things like waste logs, or other logs where necessary. This also includes ensuring your Café is always presentable, you are tasked with having a sense of ownership and accountability for the guest and Team Member experience. You will have a sense of urgency when it comes to solving/reporting issues with equipment to ensure there is no lapse in service/experience.
  • Shift management. Complying with attendance rules and being available to show up at work for your shifts, to help the Café achieve its daily and weekly goals. You will be tasked with completing bank deposits, cleaning tasks, store updates, new coffee rollouts, etc. This is not an all-inclusive list of what you could be tasked with doing on a daily shift basis, shift management and daily Café General Manager tasks could vary by Market and/or Café needs.
  • Ordering and purchasing. Ordering products through external & internal vendors and creating/maintaining ordering pars. This will require an understanding of basic inventory processes so that on a monthly basis inventory can be assessed and relayed to appropriate accountable parties and invoiced properly in our inventory management system.
  • Store collaboration. All Team Members are vital to daily Cafe operations, and as needed Team Members will flex their knowledge, skills, and abilities to help other Departments inside the Café as needed, which could include but is not limited to doing dishes, running food, cleaning, fixing errors on guest orders, and/or delegating these tasks where appropriate to other Team Members on shift.
  • Cascading important messages to the Team. You will embrace the Company’s chosen forms of communication and ensure that new and current Team Members are checking into the communication platforms on an ongoing basis.
  • Leadership engagement. You are tasked with attending all scheduled meetings, to ensure that you are always up to date on new processes and procedures and sharing messages as necessary with your Team. You will be accountable for communication through other Market communication platforms used for engaging with Team Members and responding to Team Member inquiries in a timely and respectful manner. This could include participating in Coffee Lead training and providing your Cafes Coffee Lead with your support and engagement as it pertains to training and coffee rollouts. Lastly, you will be able to understand and efficiently use the Office 365 platform.
  • Ongoing performance management. Ability to engage in difficult conversations with Team Members and ensure accurate and timely documentation of all performance issues, which includes elevating issues to applicable parties as necessary. On a yearly basis, you will be required to complete and issue Team Member reviews.
  • Leadership refinement and feedback. You will be a continuous learner, always looking for ways to elevate yourself outside of your Café Management requirements, from engaging with other Market Leaders to reading books on leadership and listening to podcasts. You will be tasked with not only learning our processes and procedures but being open to feedback on our processes to elevate your knowledge of day-to-day Cafe operations. This requires a level of curiosity and brave accountability, to ensure that feedback is understood and implemented properly.

Qualifications & Skills

  • 2 years of leadership experience preferred.
  • 2 years of customer service experience required.
  • Prior café or coffee shop experience a plus.
  • Familiarity with telephone, office, and point-of-sale software.
  • Food handlers’ card and liquor license (when applicable).
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. to waist height.
  • Must be able to lift 30 lbs. above your head.
  • Ability to work a flexible work schedule and meet business demands, including weekends and holidays.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Capability to stand on your feet for a shift of 8 hours or more at one time.
  • Basic understanding of business metrics.
