Description: Leadership Gifts Officer

Status: Exempt, Full-Time, Full-Year Staff

Department: Advancement

Reports to: Director of Leadership and Planned Giving

St. Paul’s School seeks a development professional who will play a key role in advancing the School’s leadership gifts program.

The Leadership Gifts Officer will focus on identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of leadership gift prospects and donors; maximizing gifts to the School; establishing long-term relationships with major donors; and working in collaboration with other colleagues and offices to meet the School's fund-raising objectives. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Others may be assigned at any time at the discretion of the employee’s supervisor.

  • Developing and executing development strategies to secure support from individuals at the leadership gifts level ($100,000 and above) as part of a comprehensive fundraising process.
  • Developing and stewarding a pool of prospects and establishing long-term donor relationships with the School.
  • Significant travel expected to accomplish the outcomes detailed above.
  • Preparing reports, briefings materials, correspondence, proposals, and related documents for solicitation of leadership gift prospects.
  • Scheduling joint visits with the rector, vice-rectors, faculty, volunteers and institutional advancement colleagues when appropriate.
  • Supporting volunteer networks and assisting in the identification, recruitment, and training of volunteers as needed.
  • Attending and staffing events as required, including some weekend and evening work.
  • Understanding and embracing the culture of a highly selective, fully residential secondary school and effectively articulating the School's mission to alumni, parents, and friends.
  • Work effectively with others and perform to the best of personal abilities to successfully accomplish individual, departmental, and School goals.
  • Daily contacts with donors, prospects, volunteers, alumni, parents, and School staff.
  • Frequent coordination with other development and School relations officers as it pertains to cultivating leadership gifts.
  • Strict adherence to and enforcement of School policies as necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 2-4 years of development/fundraising or related experience required with a strong preference for experience in leadership gift work.
  • Ability to cultivate and build superior relationships with high end donors for purposes of identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of gifts to the School.
  • Excellent writing and speaking skills are necessary.
  • The ability and willingness to travel up to 40% of the time is required.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Familiarity with computer systems and the willingness to use those systems.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, working both independently and as a member of a team.
  • Absolute confidentiality, professionalism and discretion required. 
  • Commitment to the mission and goals of St. Paul’s School.
  • An understanding and a belief that fundraising is a team sport.
  • A valid Driver's license and the ability to meet the requirements of the School's Motor Vehicle Use Policy required.

  • Typical of a normal office, some exposure to outdoor elements.
  • Primarily Monday through Friday, regular business hours; however, the expectation for the engagement with school life and travel for meetings and events will necessitate occasional longer hours and weekend responsibilities.
