Medical Billing and Insurance Specialist

We are Springfield Eye Specialists and we recently moved to a new location and a new billing system. We are looking for a skilled Medical Billing/Insurance Specialist to help us. Position can be FT, PT, or hybrid remote. You will find yourself learning, growing, and interacting with people and companies covering every aspect of Optometry billing. OVERVIEW:

The Billing and Insurance Specialist will assist with all facets of clinic billing process. Responsible for posting payments, adjustments, and denials from payer’s explanations (EOBs, EOPs, and ERAs) to our Electronic Health Record/practice management system. Further claims processing to secondary payers and/or patient billing. Daily reconciliation of ACH and patient payments. Best practice reporting and trend tracking of payer payments. Requires multiple system access/knowledge including EHR, Clearing House, payer portals, and Bank.

DUTIES:

- Review and analyze patient medical records to assign appropriate ICD-10 codes for diagnoses and procedures
- Ensure accurate and timely submission of medical claims to insurance companies
- Verify insurance eligibility and benefits for patients
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims and resubmit as necessary
- Communicate with patients, insurance companies, and healthcare providers to resolve billing issues
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information and adhere to HIPAA guidelines
- Stay updated on changes in coding regulations and guidelines
- Collaborate with the billing team to improve billing processes and efficiency

EXPERIENCE:

o 1-year minimum Medical Clinic experience required.

o Optometry Clinic experience Preferred.

o 1-year Medical Billing experience Required.

o 1-year Background in working with third party payors Required.

o Knowledge of EOBs, EOPs, ERAs, and denial codes Required.

o TriZetto Clearing House Experience Preferred.

o Understanding of how ICD and CPT coding affects charge posting and reimbursement Preferred.

SKILLS/ABILITIES:

- Proven experience as a Medical Biller or in a similar role
- Strong knowledge of ICD-10 coding system, DRG, and ICD-9 codes
- Familiarity with medical billing software and electronic health records (EHR) systems
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in coding and billing processes
- Knowledge of insurance guidelines, claim submission, and reimbursement processes
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with patients, insurance companies, and healthcare providers

Note: Certification in Medical Billing is preferred but not required.
