Spotsylvania County Public Schools is Hiring a Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant Near Fredericksburg, VA

Job Summary:

Assist with duties related to speech/language services that have been planned, designed, and supervised by a licensed speech-language pathologist after demonstration and documentation of competency for the duties assigned.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Assist with speech,language, or hearing screenings/assessments without interpretation of results.
  • Perform routine activities related to speech/language services that do not require professional judgment in accordance with a plan developed and directed by the speech-language pathologist.
  • Document student performance and report information to the supervising speech-language pathologist.
  • Assist with programming augmentative and alternative communication devices and assist students with daily use of such devices.
  • Prepare materials for speech/language sessions.
  • Perform clerical duties including printing, copying, and filing documents, scheduling appointments and activities, and preparing charts, data forms and spreadsheets.
  • Assist with transitioning students to and from therapy sessions
  • Perform duties not otherwise restricted to the practice of speech-language pathology

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrate personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, staff, administrators, and parents.
  • Possess good moral character
  • Possess basic knowledge of curriculum
  • Possess basic knowledge of elementary, secondary or special education principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Possess basic knowledge of speech/language practice related to screenings, data collection, and therapy procedures
  • Possess thorough knowledge of school division rules, regulations, and procedures.
  • Demonstrate ability to establish and maintain standards of behavior.

Education:

  • Candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree or associate’s degree, with preference given to a background in speech-language pathology, communication disorders, or a related field.

Salary: This is a 10-month position. Please see the starting salary below.
