WHY SMT?

SMT stands at the unique intersection of sports, broadcasting and technology, and that requires unique and diverse teams to provide award winning service. Our interns are able to take on a larger scope in their work and get a chance to work closely with our research and development teams. SMT is a place where we welcome employees as they are, encourage them to stay true to themselves while they grow professionally, and the same goes for our interns. SMT only hires a few interns each summer, with three specific goals:

1. Learning! We want our interns to leave the program having learned not only technical skills, but professional soft skills as well.
2. Exposure! To achieve this, we treat our interns as equal members of our R&D teams, and aim for them to gain an understanding of what it looks like to work on a professional team and the flow of the product development cycle. 
3. Opportunities! We encourage those selected for an internship with SMT to not only treat it as a hands-on learning experience, but to approach it as a try-out. We are proud that many of our interns have converted to full-time SMT employees after strong performance in their internship, as well as of those who went on to opportunities with other industry leaders. 

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN:

The candidate chosen for this role will build and strengthen a broad array of skills, including: analytical, problem solving, and mathematical skills; understanding sports computer vision technology; increased knowledge of databases, data processing, and data interaction; programming in established frameworks and time-constrained environments; and the design of complex, dynamic software programs that are operated during live professional sporting events.

This position includes a modestly-paid internship. Depending on your schedule, we can accommodate part-time hours with a minimum of three days per week to full-time.

As you progress through the program, you will take a more generalized role on the team, depending on the skills that you have and demonstrate.

INTERNSHIP DUTIES:

• Possible projects include: 
  • Unit tests to ensure robust front-end or back-end code 
  • Creating simulations of in-game sports activities to expose flaws in existing tracking algorithms 
  • Analyze database performance when bandwidth and capacity are stressed
  • Create a control panel application to monitor health of an object tracking system containing several types of applications deployed at numerous venues.
  • More projects to be determined closer to the hiring date.
• Interest and knowledge in sports is not required, but helpful 
• Required skills: C , Visual Studio, data structures and algorithms 
• Desired skills: databases (SQL or MongoDB/NoSQL), Qt, image/video processing, computer vision
