We are Spoke Bicycle Cafe, a restaurant, coffee shop, bike shop, and event venue in Frogtown/Elysian Valley, Los Angeles. We are located at the end of a dead end street in a funky neighborhood and face the LA River Bike Path. We are close to Dodger Stadium, Echo Park, Silver Lake, Chinatown, Atwater Village, Cypress Park, Glassell Park, and Glendale. We serve a full food menu with many vegan and omnivore selections, some of the best espresso in the city, local beer and wines, and more. We also operate a full-service bike shop on site where we repair bikes, sell accessories, build bikes, and rent bikes. There are two buildings on site with a huge patio in between. You wont need to know anything about bikes, but well-rounded experience is always a plus!

We are looking for an experienced front of house worker to prepare and serve hot and cold beverages, including espresso, beer, beer, wine, and a variety of other items. There is also potential for crossover work if you have kitchen or bike shop experience. Must have references and cafe/restaurant experience. Barista experience required. Responsibilities include educating customers on our menu, making recommendations based on their preferences, up-selling special items and taking orders. You will also do light food prep work, cleaning, and serve food. We are a counter service cafe with a very large outdoor patio. There is no table service currently due to COVID-19, but there may be in the future.

To be successful in this role, you should have customer service skills and knowledge of how brewing equipment operates. Ultimately, you’ll ensure an excellent eating, drinking, and hangout experience for our guests. We provide an experience for people and our ultimate goal is to make people feel welcome and relaxed. You should be friendly, like people, be familiar with cleaning as you go, and enjoy being busy. We get very busy on the weekends particularly, so the ability to work under pressure in busy conditions is a must. We have a small crew and all depend on each other to work hard and show up on time. We enjoy a family environment and are looking for the right person to join our team. Must be a team player, must enjoy helping your crew, must not get annoyed by customer requests and enjoy helping people. It's a big plus if you are a great cleaner and naturally organized. Restaurant and coffee shop experience required. You should be able to work various shifts. Weekends are required. Advancement a possibility for the right motivated, organized, self-starter.

Regular cafe hours are currently Wednesday through Sun 9-6, but we are extending hours in May and might be adding an additional day as well. We also have periodic evening events, including concerts, comedy shows, private events, etc. so some evening availability is also good. Full weekend availability is required.

Note: this position’s compensation includes salary and tips. Tips are great, currently average $10 /hour. You also get free shift meals and coffee drinks as well as a discount in the cafe and bike shop. Work environment is fun and we have a great crew. We have a great time together and the days go quickly, but we work hard. This is a job for you if you like to be busy, like to do lots of different things, and are a self-starter. Responsibilities
