Position Summary:

As a Young Athletes Manager for SOMN, you will find yourself embarking on a fulfilling journey that promises personal growth and professional advancement. Reports to: Director of Unified Champions Schools

Position Responsibilities:

  • Manage implementation of the Young Athletes Program. Coordinate administrative processes such as registration forms.
  • Develop project plans and budgets.
  • Recruit key individual and organizational partners to implement and sustain Young Athletes programming. Coordinate with marketing and communications staff to develop and implement marketing plans.
  • Provide effective support resources, troubleshooting and “customer service”.
  • Ensure standards are met and protocols are followed.
  • For hosted events: work with staff and vendors to develop site/venue layouts; procure supplies, equipment, signage, and other necessary materials; manage and oversee logistical and organizational details before, during and after events; provide effective on-site event management, including volunteer training and support.
  • Coordinate event tie-off and follow up, including data entry, data tracking and other task as needed.
  • For non-hosted programs: May include development of guidebooks, practice plans and other resources materials to support facilitation.
  • Collaborate, communicate, and cooperate with other staff, leadership, volunteers and other SOMN activities or programs.
  • Participate in shared department tasks such as keeping storage areas organized, maintaining supply and equipment inventories, and material procurement; preparing and distributing routine communications to internal and external stakeholders; attending team, department and staff meetings, and other duties as assigned.
  • Knowledge, experience, and/ or enthusiasm for improving peoples’ lives through health and fitness.
  • Experience working with children ages 2-7yrs.
  • Effective manage mid-to-large scale projects or events with multiple components for example: schedules, vendors, staff, volunteers, supplies, equipment)
  • Bachelor’s Degree Preferred
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, and high level of comfort communicating with new people.
  • Ability to manage time, prioritize tasks, and organize data and logistics effectively.
  • Must pass background check.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Position Requirements

  • Computer hardware running Microsoft Windows, Apple iOS, or Google Android software (desktop, laptops, tablet computers, etc.)
  • Microsoft 365 apps and systems (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint)
  • Enterprise telephone system.
  • CRM database software (Blackbaud’s the Raiser’s Edge, Special Olympics Games Management System, CERVIS Volunteer Management System

Physical Requirements

  • This job requires consistent, sometimes constant, use of a computer and other office equipment, such as the telephone and copiers.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for 1-2 hours at a time to complete work or participate in meetings. Adjustable height desks are provided at all employee workstations in SOMN’s Minneapolis office.
  • Must be able to move to different locations within the office to perform tasks or attend meetings, and to other locations as necessitates by meetings or events.
  • Position requires frequent communication with others through in-person conversations, written communication, telephone conversations, and video meetings.
  • Must be able to work in environments with loud noise.
  • Job may require transportation of supplies, materials, and equipment to meetings or events. Wheeled carts and similar resources are available at all times, and large events with greater amounts of equipment are typically coordinated amongst two or more staff members working together.

Work Environment

  • Office work will vary week to week depending on schedule; up to 100% of many weekends.
  • Working indoors in a non-office setting will vary week to week depending on external meetings and events schedules. Typically, not exceeding 50% of time in a single week but could be up 100% of time in limited instances.
  • Working outdoors to support events such as sports events. The number of events per year will vary and may be greater or fewer seasonally. In heavier event season, typically would not exceed 50% of time in a single week but could be up to 100% of time in limited instances.
  • Working where there are hazards- Work at outdoor events may include work or warm temperatures which may require appropriate clothing or other protection to maintain health and safety. Some work may occur in winter conditions and will require accommodation for cold, snow and ice.
  • Extreme Temperatures- some outdoor events in summer and winter.
  • Loud and distracting noises- Music or other entertainment at some events; sports events with large crowds; school events with the full student body.
  • Travel will be required for meetings and events, typically 5-10% of the total time in a week, with 0-5% being common. Travel may be statewide, but more commonly within the Twin Cities metro area. Rental vehicles may be provided depending on circumstances and the employee’s preference. Reimbursement for mileage, use of public transportation, or car services typically available within budget guidelines.
