POSITION SUMMARY

Under regular supervision, performs skilled clerical work involving real property assessment of mobile homes, residential and commercial properties.

This is sedentary work that involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for periods of time. Work requires the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects; work requires stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, and fingering; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for depth perception, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work. Must be physically able to operate office equipment including a calculator, computer, copier, fax, printer, scanner, telephone, etc. Must be able to use and interpret real property assessment terminology; the worker is subject to inside environmental conditions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Assists public with real property assessment questions and concerns.
  • Receives and processes assessor forms related to legal residence, agricultural use, appeals, refunds, mobile home verification, etc.
  • Prepares and processes tax related documents.
  • Performs data entry of taxable property.
  • Prepares information for tax notices.
  • Prepares, scans, and maintains records and files.
  • Answers telephones.
  • Assists the public and fellow staff members; provides information and or direction to appropriate staff.
  • Performs related tasks as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledgeable of the policies, procedures, and activities of the department as they pertain to the performance of job duties. Has knowledge of the terminology used within the department. Knows of the reports and records which must be prepared, processed, and maintained to meet the requirements of the department. Skilled in communicating with individuals from diverse backgrounds and performing job duties in a courteous manner and with the utmost integrity. Able to effectively interact with all County departments and the public. Has the mathematical ability to handle required calculations. Able to use and understand computer applications and techniques. Aware of the levels of productivity and quality to be produced on the job and is able to meet criteria. Able to interpret and apply complex policies and procedures. Able to comprehend and complete detailed instructions. Maintains high standards of accuracy. Performs related tasks as required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and some experience in working in an office setting and assisting the public.

LICENSE, CERTIFICATIONS and OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • All regular full-time and part-time employees of Spartanburg County are required by state law to participate in the South Carolina Retirement System.
  • Possession of A valid driver's license issued in the state of South Carolina.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $31,819.00 per year
