Hello Friend! Sparrow Bakery is a busy, medium-sized, regional, wholesale and retail bakery specializing in hand laminated croissants and crave-worthy café foods. We are searching for a PT to FT (3-5 days/week) Baker's Apprentice / Dough Mix Assist to add to our team of retail cafe bakers at our PDX location in The Union at St. John's. Come GROW your skills in artisanal pastry baking! The ideal days for this position are Tuesday through Saturday.

• Starting at $18.50-$19.50 / hour $3-4 / hour in tips

This is a very physical position requiring strength and stamina. Dough lamination will be a primary task, so you can cancel arm and back day at the gym! Bakers must be able to work at least one weekend day (Saturday in this case).

Pastry Baking and Hand Lamination will help you develop or hone these specific skills: fine motor skills (all baking positions will require a lot of working with your hands, very few buttons to push at this bakery!), an attention to detail and aesthetic, a penchant for consistency and incremental improvements over time, as well as working with urgency and efficiency. Pastry baking can be satisfying work because at the end of each shift you will have an opus of products that you produced, and both the satisfaction in seeing those physical beauties, along with witnessing the customers’ enjoyment of your work, can cultivate a real feeling of fulfillment in our bakers.

You will be primarily responsible for hand lamination and assisting to bake our famous laminated dough products - as well as mixing and baking English muffins and bagels. This job is a wonderful marriage of physicality (this is a physical job!) and aesthetics - pride of purpose can be found in this position, to be sure.
