SPARC is Hiring a Vocational DSP Near Springfield, IL

This is a Day Shift/Monday-Fri position
Functions:
The ISS will work closely with service recipients and the Manager to plan daily work activities and supports. The ISS will support recipients with activities of daily living and in maximizing physical, emotional, intellectual growth. The ISS will provide coaching, teaching and mentoring to the individuals they work with and ensure the Person Centered Plan’s Implementation Strategies are the foundation of their responsibilities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provides day-to day organization and teaching of the PCP Implementation Strategies that promote an organized and positive environment. Directly responsible for the implementation of the PCP. Ensures as the primary professional working with individuals an environment that is person centered, organized and promotes independence. (Essential and Non-modifiable)
  • Directly provides coaching, teaching and mentoring for persons supported in the development of personal independence. This includes actively teaching and promoting individual rights and self-advocacy. This also may include provision of personal care, including but not limited to, assistance with bathing, dressing, rest-room support, eating, choosing appropriate clothing, cleaning, personal hygiene and assisting with mobility including transferring.   • Provides implementation of work/social skills and community integration activities. The focus is on teaching work skills based on the jobs/contracts presented in a person-centered manner and ensuring each person is familiar with job responsibilities. This includes transporting persons supported to service/program plan related activities and/or appointments. (Essential and Non-modifiable)
  • Completion of required documentation including progress of measurable goals and methods to achieve goals, required daily progress notes, attendance sheets, incident and injury reports, data sheets, accurate support services records and input into functional assessments, e.g., ICAP, VACG, etc.) meeting all required time frames for documentation and submission. (Essential and Non-modifiable)
  • Acknowledges and commits to providing supervision as identified. This includes recognition that leaving individuals without supervision rises to the definition of neglect. Recognition of this position requires coordination of coverage with supervisor encases of emergency, natural disasters, staff shortages, or other circumstances in which leaving the location is not possible.   • Provides an environment that promotes health and safety and the well-being of persons supported. This includes responsibility for maintaining a safe work environment/workspace, and maintaining a program area in a well-kept, clean and safe manner. This also includes the provision of first aid and emergency health treatment, whenever required, assuring the safety and well-being of persons supported. (Essential and Non-modifiable)
  • Maintains confidentiality of information including all information surrounding individuals supported, employees, as well as Agency affairs. (Essential and Non-modifiable)
  • Assists in peer training of staff in daily program operation, as required. (Essential and Non-modifiable)
  • Responsible for safe daily transportation of individuals, which includes being familiar with specialized equipment and locking devices in vehicles and implementation of the safe driving training provided. (Essential and Non-modifiable)
  • Responsible for maintaining work schedule, including arrival to work on time, notification to supervisor of absences at least two hours ahead of scheduled work shift, coordinating with fellow team members for coverage and supervisor as needed. Consistent attendance is required. Monitors and manages PTO usage and overtime. Documents time worked accurately. (Essential and Non-modifiable)

Skills Needed:
  • Must be detail oriented with excellent time management skills and have a proven ability to meet various deadlines.
  • Possess skills necessary to effectively monitor and oversee the program area and duties.
  • Possess skills necessary to effectively document and communicate day to day happenings with persons supported to appropriate parties.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with staff, community, families and persons supported.
  • Ability to work independently, as the need may arise, as well as demonstrate ability to exercise judgment that coincides with Sparc’s standards and philosophies while assisting persons supported.
Education/Experience Requirements:
  • At least a High School diploma or G.E.D.
Other Requirements:
  • Experience with supported persons with developmental and intellectual disabilities preferred.
  • At least 18 years old.
  • Must have a current, valid Illinois Driver’s License.
  • Must have current, valid proof of automobile insurance.
  • Must have reliable transportation in order to transport persons supported.
  • Ability to physically handle any special needs of persons supported by Sparc, in order to assist program staff in emergencies, including the ability to lift and transfer persons supported as needed.
  • Attend and satisfactorily complete all training requirements.
  • Attend all required/mandatory meetings.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule as needed/required.
Working Conditions:
  • Work is mainly performed at Sparc Work Center and at community employment sites.
  • Some work may expose employees to mild or moderately high noise levels.
  • The employee may be exposed to potentially dangerous machinery, work situations, various illnesses and diseases as well as hazardous and toxic chemicals, with some exposure to physically threatening clients, and to bodily fluids, bloodborne and airborne diseases, viruses, communicable diseases, etc. Safety and security procedures must be followed.
