SPARC is Hiring a Payroll Specialist Near Springfield, IL

Job Summary
As a vital member of Sparc’s Human Resources team, the Payroll Specialist is responsible for processing accurate and timely HR, payroll, and employee benefit transactions. The Payroll Specialist manages payroll functions, works with confidential data, and must demonstrate a high level of integrity, attention to detail, and the delivery of exceptional customer service skills. This position is responsible for verifying, reviewing, updating, and maintaining employee and agency data in multiple payroll, scheduling, and service provider systems while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour legislation/standards.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Provides customer service to internal and external constituents while working directly with designated staff to process accurate and timely HR and payroll transactions specific to employee compensation, benefit plans, garnishments, taxes, and other payroll-related deductions.   • Maintains payroll operations according to agency policies and procedures, including the day-to-day review of electronic timesheets and employee work schedules for accuracy in reporting. (Essential and Non-Modifiable)
  • Verifies, reviews, updates, and maintains confidential data in multiple systems, including payroll, scheduling, and service provider systems; ensures a high level of integrity and compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour legislation/standards.   • Ensures a timely response and resolution to any payroll or benefit plan discrepancies and routinely assists staff with related inquiries. (Essential and Non-Modifiable)
  • Prepares, maintains, and distributes accurate records and reports of payroll and benefit plan transactions. (Essential and Non-Modifiable)
  • Collaborates with subject matter experts to document and establish operational HR, payroll, and employee benefit-related processes. (Essential and Non-Modifiable)
  • Assist with preparing for internal and external audits by providing records and documentation as requested. (Essential and Non-Modifiable)
  • Assists departmental staff with the recruitment, evaluation, and selection of agency staff. (Essential and Non-Modifiable)
  • Performs day-to-day duties that are reflective of Sparc’s mission and core values by being actively involved in the program and the people that Sparc programs support. (Essential and Non-Modifiable)
  • Must demonstrate exemplary performance specific to Human Resources, including but not limited to professionalism, dependability, demeanor, attendance, and confidential communication. (Essential and Non-Modifiable)
  • Performs other agency-related duties as assigned or required reasonably within the scope of the above-mentioned duties. “Related duties as assigned” are duties that may not be listed explicitly in the class specification or position description but are duties within the general, occupational series, and responsibility level typically associated with the employee’s class of work. Skills Needed:
  • Must possess a minimum of 2 (two) years’ experience in Payroll, Accounting, Human Resources, and/or in an administrative support role.
  • Must have working knowledge and experience utilizing computers, various operating systems, as well as various software programs.
  • Must be detail-oriented with excellent time management skills and have a proven ability to meet various competing deadlines and achieve organizational goals.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with staff, community, families, and individuals supported.
Education/Experience Requirements:
  • Minimum High School diploma or G.E.D.
  • Associate degree in business administration or a related field- Preferred
  • Minimum of 2 (two) years’ experience in an administrative position- Preferred
Other Requirements:
  • Experience with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred.
  • Minimum of 18 years old.
  • Must be analytical and demonstrate problem-solving techniques.
  • Must have a current, valid Illinois Driver’s License.
  • Must have current, valid proof of automobile insurance.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Attend and satisfactorily complete all training requirements.
  • Must be able to physically manage any special needs of individuals supported by Sparc to assist program staff in emergencies.
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications, including Word and Excel preferred.
Working Conditions:
  • Work is mainly performed at the Sparc Administration Building. Additional locations for occasional work include the Sparc Work Center, Sparc DTII/Senior Center, and CILA homes.
  • Safety and security procedures must be followed at all times and in accordance with the specific work site.
  • Staff in this role may be exposed to various illnesses and diseases as well as hazardous and toxic chemicals, with some exposure to physically threatening clients, bodily fluids, bloodborne and airborne diseases, viruses, communicable diseases, etc. Safety and security procedures must be followed at all times, regardless of the work location.
