Assignment: Openings in various instructional positions in the College and Career Readiness department such as GED or High School Equivalency Test Preparation, Adult Basic Ed classes, English as a Second Language and Workforce Readiness classes. Assignments will be available in various locations for both day and evening teaching opportunities.
Qualifications:
o Enjoy working with adult learners and understand the different teaching principles needed to engage adults in the learning process. Familiar with preparing and teaching assigned courses in accordance with course outlines and published course schedule.
o Maintain accurate records for each course taught.
o Assist in student retention and recruitment.
o Help develop and implement Contextualized Curriculum in Reading, Writing and Math to use with Adult Basic Ed classes, as well as GED/High School Equivalency test preparation.
o Submit all college reports in an accurate timely fashion.
o Attend instructor and departmental meetings as scheduled.
o Be responsible for professional development and maintaining professional competence.
o Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff and others.
Education
Bachelor's Degree required. Candidates with the following experience will be favored:

Southwestern Community College was established in Sylva on Dec. 1, 1964 as the Jackson County Industrial Education Center, a satellite unit of Asheville-Buncombe Technical Institute. Since achieving independent status in the fall of 1967, the College (then known as Southwestern Technical Institute) has greatly expanded its educational and training services to the residents of Jackson, Macon and Swain counties. Currently, including all diploma, certificate and associate's degree curricula as well as concentrations, instruction is provided in more than 60 programs.
