Southwest Research Institute is Hiring a QUALITY ENGINEER - QUALITY SCIENTIST - SR. QUALITY ENGINEER - Supplier Quality Auditor Near San Antonio, TX

Institute Quality Systems is a dedicated team of professionals committed to ensuring the effectiveness, efficiency, and compliance of internal processes within our organization. We conduct rigorous internal audits to identify opportunities for enhancement and compliance to international standards.

Objectives of this Role:
  • Verify that the suppliers' products and services meet the quality requirements, standards, and specifications defined by the organization. This involves conducting audits to assess whether suppliers adhere to quality management systems, and applicable standards and regulations.
  • Identify and assess potential risks associated with the supplier's processes, materials, or products.
  • Supplier quality auditors evaluate the supplier's ability to identify and mitigate risks, ensuring that Southwest Research Institute is not exposed to quality-related risks.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement within the supplier's operations.
  • Supplier quality auditors may suggest enhancements to manufacturing processes, quality control procedures, and quality management systems to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Assess the overall performance of suppliers and provide objective feedback by analyzing key performance indicators (KPIs), delivery timelines, defect rates, and customer feedback to evaluate suppliers' capabilities.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of audit findings, corrective actions, and supplier performance. Supplier quality auditors prepare comprehensive audit reports and share them with relevant stakeholders to facilitate decision-making.
Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:
  • Review and plan the supplier audits to be conducted. This involves coordinating with relevant stakeholders, scheduling audits with suppliers, and preparing the necessary documentation and checklists.
  • Conduct onsite audits at supplier facilities to assess their quality management systems, processes, and product conformity. Perform documentation review, inspections, interviews, and observations to evaluate the supplier's adherence to established standards and specifications.
  • Prepare audit reports detailing the findings, observations, and recommendations from the supplier audits conducted.
  • Ensure the reports are accurate, well-documented, and delivered to relevant stakeholders in a timely manner.
  • Communicate with suppliers regarding audit results, corrective actions, and improvement plans.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, such as procurement, engineering, and quality assurance, to address supplier-related issues.
  • Evaluate performance metrics of suppliers, such as on time delivery, defect rates, and product quality, to monitor their ongoing compliance with the purchasing organization's standards as part of the approved supplier list.
  • Resolve Supplier Corrective Action Requests.
Requirements:
  • Requires a Bachelors degree in Quality Management, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or related degree fields.
  • 2 years: Experience in auditing, quality management, or supplier relationship management.
  • 2 years: Familiarity with quality standards such as ISO 9001 or ISO 17025 is required.
  • 2 years: Excellent communication skills to work with staff, management and representatives of suppliers.
  • A valid/clear driver's license is required.

  • Mechanical Engineering-Improving safety, reliability, efficiency and life of new or existing mechanical components or systems.
  • Powertrain Engineering-Designing and developing vehicle and engine components to achieve performance and emissions goals.
  • Space Science & Engineering-Developing and managing advanced scientific payloads aboard satellites and sounding rockets.
