Southwest Gas is Hiring an Administrator/Risk Management & Safety Near Phoenix, AZ

The Administrator/Risk Management & Safety is responsible for conducting, as well as managing employees who conduct investigations of incidents involving potential legal liability and civil penalties; fires & explosions potentially involving natural gas; damage to Company property; vehicle accidents; and employee injuries. This position also requires management of claims files being worked by Risk Management staff assigned to the division. At the direction of counsel and the Manager/Risk Management & Safety, this position investigates serious incidents and assists with claims in litigation up to and including resolution.

This position is responsible for the implementation and management of the division safety program to ensure a safe working environment and (OSHA) compliance. This position is also responsible for implementing division environmental programs as they relate to employee safety/environmental exposures to ensure state and federal EPA compliance.

POSITION DIMENSIONS

Directly reporting to this position are up to two exempt and up to two non-exempt personnel. This position is not responsible for a budget. This incumbent regularly exchanges information with non-exempt and professional level employees, senior management, and numerous outside parties, including, but not limited to, attorneys, outside consultants, regulatory agencies, and other official investigators. The incumbent must be able to negotiate with claimants and others and resolve disputes.

QUALIFICATIONS

There are clear precedents and practices that the incumbent uses to determine how this job is performed. This position requires five to seven years of relevant work experience.

A bachelor's degree from an accredited university is preferred but not required.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct, as well as manage those who conduct investigations of incidents involving potential legal liability, fire & explosions, property damage, vehicle accidents, employee injuries, and environmental issues
  • Negotiate and settle claims
  • Implement division safety and environmental programs
  • Manage the division billable line break recovery program
  • Manage and lead the division Accident Prevention Committee
  • Coordinate and supervise the clean-up and remediation of environmental spills and/or releases, and record and archive any associated compliance documentation
  • Serve as Division Emergency Response Coordinator ("ERC") or provide guidance to the Division ERC
  • Provide data and assist in the preparation of responses to data requests from appropriate regulatory agencies
  • Ensure division compliance with applicable Company policies and local, state, and federal regulations relating to safety and employee environmental exposures
  • Assist Risk Management and Legal Affairs with the resolution of claims and the defense of litigation
  • Coordinate and manage response and reporting of environmental incidents
  • Coordinate and accompany outside agency representatives during OSHA and environmental inspections
  • Perform liaison responsibilities with fire and police agencies
  • Interpret changes in liability, safety, and environmental laws and regulations and advise management accordingly
  • Complete trend analysis of data consistent with a cohesive Enterprise Risk Management function
  • Work closely with division departments and senior management as a subject matter expert
  • Identify exposures, recommend solutions, implement approved programs, promote loss prevention, update and monitor compliance with insurance procedures and manage safety/risk management manuals
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned
  • Regular and predictable attendance is a condition of employment and is an essential function of the job

SALARY DETAILS

$86,806 - $130,208
