Purpose
Social Studies: Help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational development and maturity. Create a learning environment that challenges students at all ability levels and encourages inquiry, collaboration, and creativity. Teachers will be required to integrate technology into classroom activities; differentiate instruction; effectively utilize formative and summative assessments; use data to inform instruction; etc.
Skills:Help 6th & 7th grade students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational development and maturity. Specific units of study include career exploration, finance and drug education. To help 8th grade students learn knowledge, skills and behaviors they need to be prepared for success in college, career and life with a focus on the impact of today’s choices on tomorrow’s possibilities. Topics to be addressed include twenty-first century life and career skills; higher order thinking, communication, leadership and management processes; exploration of personal aptitudes, interests, values and goals; examining multiple life roles and responsibilities as individuals and family members; planning and building employability skills; transferring school skills to life and work; and managing personal resources.
Qualifications
Certified teacher in the state of Indiana. Ability to work in a team environment. Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills. Experience in the use of computer assisted instruction desirable. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
