The ideal candidate will have the ability to recruit and retain students in the band program. Must be able to confidently teach appropriate instrument pedagogy and ensemble skills. Candidate must demonstrate professional, ethical and responsible behavior. Preferred candidate must be able to teach and supervise a range of musical activities including ensembles ranging from, but not limited to: marching band, football and basketball pep band, concert band, orchestra, symphonic band, jazz ensemble and middle school band. (Specific duties will be determined based on the talent and experience of our performing arts team, once the new band director has been selected.) Must have current knowledge of marching band activity including past experience with high school band and/or drum corps.
The ideal candidate will have the ability to create a learning environment that challenges students at all ability levels and encourages inquiry, collaboration, and creativity. Teachers will be required to integrate technology into classroom activities; differentiate instruction; effectively utilize formative and summative assessments; use data to inform instruction; etc.
Qualifications
Certified teacher in the state of Indiana. There are additional summer hours required (Supplemental Contract). Position involves frequent and prolonged standing, walking, climbing and lifting. Position includes environmental conditions of exposure to sun, heat, cold and precipitation. Frequent exposure to loud sounds. Under these demands, candidate must maintain control under stress, work prolonged and irregular hours (evenings and weekends) and be able to travel as dictated by the job.
