Southern Research is Hiring a Cloud Engineer Near Birmingham, AL

Cloud Engineer 
General Summary
The Cloud Engineer is responsible for developing/maintaining cloud strategies, evaluating cloud applications and hardware, and organizing cloud systems to meet the operational needs of the organization. The Engineer will design and implement cloud solutions including servers, storage and network infrastructure, ensuring the smooth functioning of cloud systems with minimal downtime. The Engineer will evaluate and select cloud providers, establish best practices for cloud adoption, and work with IT teams to monitor cloud privacy and address technical issues. This Engineer must stay updated on cloud computing technologies and trends, and effectively communicate complex cloud reports to management and IT partners.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Create and execute cloud computing strategies by designing, developing, and managing cloud infrastructure and assets to help a business meet its goals
  • Create a well-informed cloud strategy and manage the adaptation process
  • Evaluate cloud applications, hardware, and software
  • Develop and organize cloud systems
  • Work closely with IT security to monitor the company’s cloud privacy
  • Respond to technical issues in a professional and timely manner
  • Offer guidance in infrastructure movement techniques, including bulk application transfers into the cloud
  • Identify the top cloud architecture solutions to successfully meet the needs of the company
  • Lead the organization through cloud adoption and establish best practices
  • Work closely with DevOps team members, not only for strategic planning, but also for the technical work of building, deploying, and migrating applications within an organization’s computing cloud.
  • Collaborate with developers to make sure that preliminary requirements of a build are met before continuing to design and integrate the project
  • Vet and select cloud providers and third-party services
  • Responsible for on-premise VMware and SAN infrastructure
Requirements/Minimum Qualifications
  • 3-5 years of experience designing, executing, and supporting IT cloud solutions
  • Proven work experience as a Cloud Engineer/Architect or similar role
  • Positive attitude and a strong commitment to delivering quality work
  • Excellent knowledge of cloud computing technologies and current computing trends
  • Effective communication skills (written and verbal) to properly articulate complicated cloud reports to management and other IT development partners
  • Relevant training and/or certifications as a Cloud Engineer/Architect
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, information technology or relevant field
  • Relevant industry certifications, such as Microsoft Azure or AWS.
  • Candidates with on-premise VMware and Dell servers and storage experience a plus
