Welders are responsible for ensuring that company products and processes meet Customer, National and International standards, specifications and Accreditations. Welders are responsible for GTAW (TIG) weld repair of various types of metals, including stainless steels, cobalt and nickel alloy castings

• Welders shall achieve and retain AWS D17.1 Class A approvals for casting welding in the following alloy groups:
• IB — Heat Treatable Alloy Steels
• IIB — Precipitation Hardenable Steels
• IIIB — Precipitation Hardening Nickel Base Alloys.
• VII — Cobalt Base Alloys
• Examine work pieces for defects and efficiently and accurately use measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, height gages, and templates to ensure conformance with specifications. Analyze each part based on Engineering Specifications and Customer criteria as to proper weld process to qualify part as acceptable.
• Clamp, hold, tack-weld, heat-blend, grind or bolt component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding.
• Successfully salvage weld repair products identified as non-conforming, helping to reduce scrap and re-work in the organization.
• Detect faulty operation of equipment or defective materials and notify Group Leader.
• Monitor the welding processes to avoid overheating of parts or warping, shrinking, distortion, discoloration or expansion of material.
• Recognize, set up, and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade.
• Read and accurately interpret internal instructions and weld procedure specifications.
• Provide and maintain Weld Maps as defined by internal instructions.
• Utilize grinding and cutting tool as needed, such as, air grinders, drill press, manual mill, saws, carbide and burr tools.
• Must know the sizes of defects such as .010 or .030 in order to repair defects.
• Inspection of parts includes determining if parts are good and can proceed to the next operation or if they do not meet criteria and must be scrapped.
• Properly record in the electronic production tracking system the progress and completion of jobs.
• Load repaired parts onto carts and/or buggies and transfer to the next operation on the Router (Flow Sheet).
• Welders are expected to complete training in the following Non-Destructive Testing disciplines (and, when possible, qualify to Level 2 per NAS410):
• Visual Inspection
• Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection (FPI)
• X-Ray
