Southern Power Systems is Hiring an Electrical Estimator Near Baton Rouge, LA

Job Title: Electrical EstimatorSchedule: Monday – Friday (weekends as needed)Location: Baton Rouge, LA

Summary

Provides technical capability and support for the Project Controls function of estimating as required to meet project scope and job requirements by performing the following duties and responsibilities.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Under minimal direction performs a variety of highly complex estimating activities.
  • Good grasp of and capable application of standard estimating techniques.
  • Work the entire life cycle of a bid, from invitation to proposal submittal to Owner, along with post-submittal support/clarification when required.
  • Ability to interpret Client specifications and perform quantity takeoffs from bid package drawings as necessary to prepare labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
  • Attends pre-bid meetings in the field, take detailed notes, and ask appropriate questions.
  • Coordinate estimating activities with a diverse team of Managers and Project Leaders to complete estimates and proposals on multiple projects.
  • Prepare proposal packages and contact vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors via phone, email, and other messaging types for supporting quotations (as necessary).
  • Create project schedules with priority organization of activities for a project.
  • Compile estimate input within in-house estimating process.
  • Read and interpret project scope and drawings for accuracy.
  • Evaluate vendor quotes, makes adjustment for completeness.
  • Assign appropriate indirect cost for both field and non-field activities.
  • Performs cost risk analysis and provides appropriate contingency for estimates.
  • Publish estimates in a format that accurately and concisely communicates the project scope.
  • Publish estimates with the level of detail reflective of the phase of the project.
  • Analyzes and adjusts for variances in scope and estimates from one project to the next.
  • Keeps all records (drawings, specs, quotes, and notes/correspondence) organized throughout the bid process.
  • Be able and willing to travel to project sites to work as part of the field execution team (as needed).
  • Perform additional assignments per supervisor's and/or management's direction.
  • Maintain knowledge of safety policies and procedures and perform assigned duties in a safe manner.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Educations and/or Experience

BS graduate in construction management, engineering, business or technical field from a four-year college or university is desired.Prefer 4 plus years of experience in electrical related Utility/Industrial engineering/construction estimating.

Desired Skills

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills, along with a strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work hands-on and independently, as well as part of the team.
  • Advanced MS Excel skills are critical to success.
  • Other desirable computer skills are Word, PDF Editor, and MS Project scheduling software.
  • The ability to work across all levels of the organization in an efficient and effective manner using excellent communication skills is crucial.
