Southern Power Systems is Hiring a Switchgear Technician Near Baton Rouge, LA
Location : Various in the Gulf Coast Region Key Responsibilities/Duties
Identify type of gear and apply PM and testing methods per NETA standards or customer:
Medium Voltage Switchgear
Low Voltage MCC's
Circuit Breakers
Battery Systems
Shielded and Non-Shielded Cable
Grounding Systems
Isolate device and identify grounding points as necessary for testing
Troubleshoot control circuits, DC grounds, electrical faults
Interpret testing results and provide recommendations
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
3 or more years of prior industrial/substation electrical experience is preferred
CDL or Chauffer's license is preferred - ability to effectively pull a trailer
Utilize PPE and safety equipment as required per task
Must have reliable transportation
Must be able to acquire a TWIC certification
Ability to read and interpret blue prints and schematic drawings
Work various job locations throughout the week
Participate in job safety analysis, behavioral based safety observations, and all other Safety, Health and Environmental Processes.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Ability to work skillfully with both hands constantly, independently, safely lift and carry objects up to 5 feet long and weighing up to 20 pounds routinely, 50 pounds occasionally, climb and maintain balance on ladders and scaffold, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, push, pull, twist, finger, grasp and feel on a constant and repetitive basis, stand, walk, talk, see (20/20 vision naturally or corrected), hear within normal range and perform repetitive motion activities.
Ability to work in extreme environmental conditions including excessive heat and cold, noise, vibrations, dust, fumes, oils, wear a portable respirator.
Ability to physically negotiate the hazards of a new construction worksite (i.e. uneven surfaces, floor openings, heights, construction debris and poor lighting).
