Description
The Office of Accessible Campus Community & Equitable Student Support (ACCESS) seeks a qualified Staff Interpreter to join its team. Reporting to the Director, the Staff Interpreter will be responsible for communicative expression and receptivity with d/Deaf and hard of hearing students, faculty, staff, and others in various settings.
The primary role of this position is to provide classroom interpreting services to identified students on a regular basis. As the topics discussed vary, the position can be quite complex. Additionally, the Staff Interpreter will provide interpreting services for University convocations, meetings, consultations, and health services as needed. The incumbent will also be responsible for educating faculty, staff, and meeting facilitators on the role of the interpreter. Furthermore, the position will perform other related duties as assigned. It is essential to note that the supervisor may assign additional duties that are logically related to the position, even if they are not explicitly listed.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Work Schedule: This position is full-time, requiring 37.5 hours per week. The standard work week runs from Monday to Friday, with working hours from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Some night and weekend hours will be required as needed.

1. High School Graduation or GED.
2. B. For post-secondary education, Interpreters must show proof of current licensure at the Intermediate Proficiency level or higher as specified in Section 1515.90 of the Interpreter for the Deaf Act of 2007 Rules*
*As required by the position to be filled, education, training and/or work experience in an area of specialization inherent to the position may be required to meet credential requirements #2A or #2B above:
Preferred Qualifications:1. Level IV or Level V State Interpreter Certification preferred and/or national RID/NAD certification.

About Civil Service Examination/Testing: The Civil Service examination for this classification is based on your application materials and responses to the supplemental questions. No participation other than submission of application materials is required from applicants that qualify to take the exam. If you meet the minimum required qualifications for this position, your application will move forward for examination/testing in which you will receive a score calculated based on your education and experience, and your name will be placed on the active employment register by exam score. This score will be emailed to the email address noted on your application. After the application deadline, the names within the top three scores will be referred to the department for interview. The active register for this classification will be voided when the position is filled. Exam scores will be delivered from the civil service system apps@sucss.illinois.gov.

Illinois Residency Requirement: Pursuant to the State Universities Civil Service System, out-of-state candidates must establish Illinois residency within 180 calendar days of the start date for this position. Illinois residency requires proof of a valid Illinois Driver’s License or state of Illinois ID Card. Failure to produce the required documentation within 180 calendar days will result in immediate termination of employment.

The screening process will encompass a criminal background check and, where applicable, other background checks such as a drug screen, verification of employment and education or licensure/certification, reference checks, and/or checks with relevant government registries. Additional Information: This position does not offer work authorization sponsorship. International students at SIUE on F-1 or J-1 visas are not eligible for full-time or part-time civil service positions with permanent status. F-1 and J-1 visa holders must be enrolled full-time and can only apply for temporary part-time roles working 20 hours or less per week during spring and fall semesters, such as student worker positions, assistantships, and civil service extra help roles. SIUE is a state university, and it's important to highlight that benefits from state-sponsored plans may not be accessible to individuals on F1 or J1 visas.
