Southern Arkansas University Tech is Hiring a Director of the Arkansas Fire Training Academy Near Camden, AR

The Director of the Arkansas Fire Training Academy serves as the Chief Administrative Officer for the AFTA, a unit of Southern Arkansas University Tech. The position is responsible for ensuring quality training and externally representing the academy with stakeholders in accomplishing the mission of the AFTA. Arkansas law divides responsibility of fire safety in Arkansas and all stakeholders work as a team to provide the best quality fire protections through appropriate standards and training among other statutory responsibilities.All SAU Tech employees are expected to demonstrate excellence in interpersonal behaviors and be committed to effective collaboration with colleagues. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Establish a strategic plan and implement goals and objectives with advice from stakeholders for the AFTA with objectives and measurements to define level of accomplishment. This includes long range fiscal planning and budgeting.Consult with the various service groups, organizations, fire departments, and other stakeholders to identify needs for fire protection in Arkansas. This includes training needs, concerns about necessary curriculum, and other matters that are of interest to the firefighters of Arkansas. Effective communication that builds consensus among stakeholders is essential.Supervise all aspects of the AFTA including quality of content and instructional methods, instructional evaluations, and ensure that the curriculum both at the Academy and in the field maintains the highest quality and meets all appropriate sites.Coordinate budget management with the Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration.Coordinate the public relations program as identified in the SAU Tech master plan.Report on Academy operations at meetings of the Fire Protection Services Board.Seek advice from the Arkansas Fire Protection Services Board in matters related to the training and certification of fire services personnel in Arkansas and curriculum and instructional content of the curriculum offered by the AFTA.Assist the Chancellor with legislative liaison duties related to the procurement of state funds for the operation of the Academy.Maintains quality of operation and training at remote sites.Serves as liaison to technical colleges offering Fire Science instruction.Manage the National Incident Reporting System for each fire department in the state.Supervise the Industry Training Program Coordinator.Provide leadership in maintaining IFSAC and Pre-Board Accreditation certification.Supervise student residents.Work cooperatively with the Vice Chancellor for Academics and Planning to promote the Associate degree program in Fire Science.Advocate for firefighting as a career.Performs related responsibilities as assigned or required.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Any additional education and/or experience may be substituted for all or part of these requirements upon approval of the Fire Service Board in consultation with the Chancellor.The AFTA Director should reside within a reasonable commuting distance from the academy.Deadline for first consideration is May 26, 2024.PLEASE NOTE: APPLICATION CANNOT BE SUBMITTED USING A MOBILE DEVICE.
