Job Summary The day to day responsibilities of ensuring the delivery of excellence in patient care in the behavioral health setting while ensuring the efficient use of resources Essential Functions
  • Manages patient care unit employee outcomes by recruiting, selecting, orienting, training, assigning, scheduling, coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, appraising, and reviewing job contributions; planning and reviewing compensation actions; enforcing policies and procedures
  • Achieves patient care unit operational objectives by contributing information and analysis to strategic plans and reviews; preparing and completing action plans; assessing productivity, quality, patient-service, safety, security, and health standards; identifying and resolving problems; completing audits; identifying, developing, and implementing system improvements
  • Meets patient care unit financial objectives by estimating requirements; updating position control; preparing an annual budget; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions
  • Resolves patient issues by conferring with parties involved
  • Maintains a cooperative relationship among healthcare teams by communicating patient care requirements; responding to requests; building rapport; participating in team problem-solving
  • Maintains documentation of patient care services by auditing patient and unit records
  • Maintains safe, secure, and healthy patient care environment by developing and interpreting infection-control policies and protocols; enforcing medication administration, storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations; adhering to organization standards and policies, and to legal regulations; alerting others regarding potential concerns
  • Protects healthcare organization value by keeping information confidential; cautioning others regarding potential breaches
  • Serves and protects the healthcare community by adhering to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and The Joint Commission standards
  • Ensures patient care and administrative equipment operation by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and technologies
  • Insure appropriate patient care supplies are available by working with ancillary departments; anticipating needs; placing and expediting orders; verifying receipt
  • Improves patient care and management job knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; incorporating evidence based practices; participating in professional societies
  • Contributes to patient care and organization success by welcoming related, different, and new requests; helping others accomplish job results
  • Approve work schedules, timeoff requests, and time cards for staff members, according to organizational policy, law and regulation
  • Leader rounding on all shifts with staff recognition, development and engagement as a focus
  • Take rotating call with other acute care nurse managers and cover in absence of other nurse managers
  • Supports a shared governance structure on the unit that works to address safety, quality and staff development initiatives
  • Any other duties as needed to drive to the Vision, fulfill the Mission, and abide by the Values of the organization
  • Plan, Direct, Coordinate, use nursing process, 24 hour accountability, leadership, professional growth, and evidence based practice
  • Possess critical thinking skills and can assess staff, patient and family needs to coordinate the appropriate nursing plan of care

  • Will take rotating call with other acute care nurse managers
  • Provide management oversight coverage in the absence of other nurse managers
  • Proven evidence of ability to organize and prioritize
  • Must routinely be visible and engaged in the day to day functioning of the department
  • Maintains a calm, professional demeanor under pressure/stress

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree Nursing required
  • Bachelor's Degree Nursing required
  • Associates degree in Nursing will be accepted, but must be currently enrolled in a BSN program with completion within 3 years of hire In lieu of a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing upon hire, a Bachelor's degree in a related field will be accepted
  • Minimum of 3 years Clinical nursing experience required
  • Minimum of 1 year Management experience, proven ability to manage, train and educate staff on new protocols and existing standard operating procedures preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years Staff Nurse experience required
  • RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure And/Or Compact State Licensure in State of MO Upon Hire required
  • BLS - Basic Life Support Upon Hire required
  • Certification - Nursing Administration or Professional (Specialty) in area of specialty within 2 Years preferred
  • RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure And/Or Compact State Licensure In the State of Missouri required
  • BLS - Basic Life Support required
  • Certification in area of specialty, Nurse Executive (NE), or Certified Nurse Manager and Leader (CNML) is expected within two years of hire required
