Job Summary The Office Nurse: Promotes and restores patients' health by completing the nursing process at a level commensurate with the clinical skill and licensure; collaborating with providers and multidisciplinary team members; providing physical and psychological support to meet the individual and population specific needs of patients, friends and families; supervising assigned team members. Essential Functions
  • The Office Nurse will possess the clinical knowledge to provide care and improve the processes of care for the patient.
  • The Office Nurse will act as a liaison between the clinic, hospital and other outside clinical services.
  • The Office Nurse will work directly with the provider in the assessment of patient needs in the Clinic.
  • Review patient charts for next day to have a foundation for visit expectations.
  • Prepare patients for examination (vitals, medication reconciliation, collection of medical histories, preventative maintenance data collection, etc.).
  • Assists provider with examinations.
  • Call in prescriptions and refills for clinic patients (including controlled substances). Note: the nurse cannot call in medication orders for inpatients. Utilizes the electronic health record for electronic submission of prescriptions whenever possible.
  • Triage phone calls and document in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) patient clinical concerns.
  • Perform diagnostic procedures and treatments as ordered (EKG, IM, SQ, lab draws, immunizations, weight checks, blood pressure checks, dressing changes, Waived testing, etc).
  • Obtain pre-certifications and permits for procedures.
  • Coordinates the scheduling of procedures and exams for patients when ordered by provider.
  • Educates the patients on procedures and prep instructions when procedures are scheduled.
  • Review incoming clinical reports for abnormals and keeps the provider informed.
  • Keep drug cabinet organized and stocked with current expiration dates documented in the logs.
  • Assist with office duties as required (answer phones, filing/scanning documents in patient charts, tracking preventative maintenance, etc.)
  • Assist patients to complete: parking disability forms, certificates of medical necessity and medication assistance forms, etc.
  • Identifies patient care requirements by establishing personal rapport with potential and actual patients and other persons in a position to understand care requirements.
  • Establishes a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, friends, and families.
  • Promotes patient’s independence by teaching patient, friends and family to understand condition, medications, and self-care skills; answering questions.
  • Resolves patient problems and needs by utilizing multidisciplinary team strategies.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations; calling for assistance from health care support personnel when indicated.
  • Assures quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards; measuring health outcomes against benchmark standards; making or recommending necessary adjustments; following hospital and nursing philosophies and standards of care set by state board of nursing, state nurse practice act, and CMS.
  • Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols, medication administration, storage procedures, and cleaning of patient care equipment.
  • Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department electronic health records.
  • Maintains continuity among nursing teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs in the electronic health record system.
  • Maintains nursing supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies; using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
  • Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies / committees.
  • Maintains a cooperative relationship among health care teams by communicating information; responding to requests; participating in team problem-solving methods.
  • Ensures operation of equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements and daily calibrations prior to use; following manufacturer’s instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling in repairs according to policy to ensure patient safety.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, and/or possibly be assigned to other clinical/satellite locations as needed
  • The Office Nurse may also be trained to set up and assist the provider with:
  • Injections
  • Biopsies
  • Excisions
  • IV Insertions
  • Immunizations
  • Ingrown toenail removal
  • Incision and debridement (I&D)
  • Trigger point injections
  • Trigger finger injections
  • Joint injections and aspirations
  • Abscess removal
  • Mole/Wart removal – use of liquid nitrogen
  • Lab draws
  • UA capture
  • Throat culture/swabs
  • Pap and Pelvic set up – swabs / slides
  • Nebulizer treatments
  • Electrocardiogram (EKG)
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required
  • Computer skills required
  • EPM/EMR preferred
  • Physician office experience preferred
  • LPN - Licensed Practical Nurse - State Licensure In the State of Missouri Upon Hire requi
