DESCRIPTION

We are seeking a dynamic individual to serve as the Director of the Learning Commons, responsible for spearheading the development, coordination, and implementation of programs and services crucial to the academic development and success of our students. As the Director, you will collaborate closely with faculty, academic departments, and student services to ensure that our offerings align with student needs, fostering an environment conducive to learning and growth.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Contributes to the achievement of retention, completion, and success goals for students by working with faculty, academic departments, and student services to implement programs in response to student academic support service needs, which could include but not limited to tutoring programs.
  • Assists in planning and organizing services which support the mission of the college and its multiple educational programs both on and off campus.
  • Schedules and prioritizes projects while maintaining accurate work records of all services rendered.
  • Collaborates with appropriate departments on campus to coordinate the delivery of a variety of workshops designed to improve student success skills.
  • Coordinates and oversees the Learning Commons budget, and demonstrates sound financial management practices to ensure the most effective use of the budget.
  • Monitors and coordinates with IT staff to ensure Learning Commons websites are effective in reaching students and conveying appropriate, accurate and timely information effectively.
  • Serves as a liaison with Library and IT staff regarding physical learning resources, and computer/technology needs of the Learning Commons.
  • Coordinates with professional tutors for math and writing labs to develop comprehensive academic support programming.
  • Represents the Learning Commons in meetings with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Assists with hiring of staff for the Learning Commons area.
  • Assists students and faculty with accessing resources in the Learning Commons Area.
  • Maintains competency and professional currency through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses.
  • Prepares reports detailing activities and accomplishments of the Learning Commons.
  • Identifies campus resources and other external resources to support the Learning Commons and provides oversight for grant opportunities for this area.
  • Contribute in the development, improvement and implementation of retention software.
  • Other duties as assigned by Executive Dean, Vice President and President.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Curriculum Development, Educational Technology, or related field required.
  • Minimum three years of experience in a higher education setting, with demonstrated administrative experience in program development or project management.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to multitask and work under pressure.
  • Proficiency in interpreting budget and financial documents.
