Southeast Area Transit District is Hiring a Bus Operator Near Norwich, CT

The District is the region’s public transportation provider with a strong public service ethic. We are looking for a dependable, safety-focused and hard-working individual who enjoys making a difference, a quick learner who can take the initiative and someone who enjoys being part of a small team that takes pride in their service to the community.
JOB DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Operate transit buses and wheelchair lifts/ramps. 
• For passengers with disabilities: must have the have the ability to provide assistance with securing wheelchair; provide assistance with boarding and exiting; provide guidance as needed. 
• Collects fares, verifies passes and ID cards, and coordinates passenger transfers. 
• Receives and transmits communications over a two-way radio and mobile data terminal (MDT). 
• Reports schedule delays, completes and files reports including accidents, detours, vehicle inspections, fares and passes, and other incidents, makes recommendations for safety and route improvements. 
• Works cooperatively at all levels of personnel. 
• Attends in-service training, seminars or other opportunities for professional development as made available by the District. 
• Other related duties as assigned. 
REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:
• High School Diploma/GED.
• Minimum of one (1) year experience in position requiring excellent customer service skills.
• At least 21 years old, valid CDL (Class A or B).
• CDL Endorsements of P and in addition either: S,V, F or A (CDIP accepted).
• No more than one (1) moving violation in last three years.
• Ability to work all shifts (including nights, weekends, holidays and split shifts) and maximum hours per day to not exceed CT Hours of Service.
• Must not have outside employment that interferes with employment at SEAT.
• Ability to pass DOT physical exam and pending CDL tests, pre-employment testing meeting the physical requirements of the position.
• Must be able to attend training.
• Must be able to effectively read, write and comprehend Basic English.
$20.43/Hour to start; Excellent Full-Time benefits including, medical, dental, vision, life, disability, vacation, sick, personal days, 457(b) and an EAP program.
