South Weber City is Hiring an Utility Maintenance Near Weber, UT

JOB OVERVIEW
Performs a variety of professional, skilled maintenance duties related to operating a variety of construction equipment; the operation, repair, maintenance, and replacement of the City’s water systems; parks equipment, including small engines; storm water drainage systems, street repair, and snow removal.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILIES
  • Inspects the day-today operations of the City’s parks, including: detention basins, parks building maintenance, bowery’s, and restrooms, including cleaning, amenity replacement, and exterior maintenance; parks landscaping, trees, sprinkling systems through the appropriate watering, weeding, mowing, pruning, fertilizing, spraying, and repairing.
  • Administers the successful execution of the duties to carry out the tree and shrub planting program.
  • Maintains the park lawns, trees, shrubs, and other greenery; completes the pruning and trimming projects; assures adherence to water sprinkling system(s) schedules.
  • Performs the construction, installation, maintenance, and repair for the irrigation of all City parks; conducts all mowing, watering, and aeration of parks. Monitors the health and condition of trees, shrubs, and other horticulture; evaluates diseases in the trees and makes decisions for treatment of unhealthy trees, shrubs, and related vegetation.
  • Assures operation and maintenance of automated sprinkler systems; inspects progress and general condition of the parks grounds. Conducts the weed abatement and tree trimming; maintains equipment and fixtures.
  • Receives and answers inquiries pertaining to parks programs, landscaping, and tree issues; resolves problems and complaints regarding the use of City Park properties.
  • Completes the maintenance of technical aspects of parks operations, including electrical equipment, timers/clocks, plumbing fixtures, and mechanical equipment; performs preventative maintenance and repair on various pieces of equipment and small engines.
  • Oversees seasonal duties, such as: the winterizing of sprinkler systems, park restrooms, bowery’s; flushing of watering systems in spring, and administers repairs needed to equipment and facilities.
  • Monitors the general safety condition and use of parks equipment.
  • Performs installation or repair of water service connections, water lines, meters; repairs water mains, thaws frozen lines; connects and disconnects water services; initiates water leak detection.
  • Operates a variety of small hand tools and small power equipment.
  • Assists the Public Works Water Systems Superintendent with monthly meter reading of residential and commercial water utility connections and works jointly with utility billing.
  • Receive and responds to blue staking requests.
  • Responds to emergency calls and determines the necessary personnel and materials needed to resolve the problem; responds to complaints or problems received from citizens and property owners.
  • Prepares and maintains daily and monthly activity reports and records to document adequacy, quality and timeliness or work performed.
  • Investigate complaints made by members of the public and makes recommendations for corrective measures.
  • Assists in the delivery of professional training and seminars to staff to assure desired work quality, efficiency, and effectiveness, including the acquisition and maintaining of all necessary certifications required by local, state, and federal law applicable to public works operations.
  • Under the direction of the Public Works Director, implements the preventative maintenance plans specific to sewer and water valves, manhole lids, and fire hydrant flushing; during the winter months performs snow removal.
  • Responds to 24-hour emergency calls, including snow removal. Provides back-up support to water and streets. Rotates on-call for after hour emergencies and/or customer service calls. *Performs other duties as assigned*

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Formal Education/Knowledge
Graduation from High School PLUS one (1) to three (3) years of experience working in parks and building maintenance program and a municipal water system, including the administration and management of materials and volunteer personnel necessary for the development and maintenance of the City’s parks and buildings and water infrastructure.

Skills & Knowledge
  • Thorough knowledge of general principles and practices related to parks landscaping and building maintenance; modern constructional trends, and maintenance; thorough knowledge of equipment and materials used in parks and building maintenance, and water operations; comprehensive knowledge of current city standards, safety practices and principles involving parks, retention ponds, buildings, and water operations; possession of CDL licensing and knowledge of associated laws.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, elected and appointed officials, other agencies, and the public.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions with tact, and recommend solutions.
Certifications and Other Requirements
  • Must possess a valid Utah driver’s license.
  • Must possess a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or the ability to obtain within 6 months
  • Must possess the Division of Drinking Water’s Grade IV Water Certification or the ability to obtain it within 6 months.
  • Must possess basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite proficiency
  • Must be available and willing to be on-call for after-hours response to emergency and/or customer service-oriented calls as outlined in the city code, including snow removal services.
  • Must pass background check and drug screening.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to build consensus, effect cooperation and participation and drive improvement changes.
PHYSICAL QUALIFICATION
  • Must be able to lift 50-100 lbs. occasionally, 25-50-lbs frequently, or up to 10-20-lbs constantly.
  • Ample outdoor work required in the inspection various land use developments, construction sites, or public works facilities.
  • Office equipment such as computer, fax machine, copy machine and telephone.
  • Must be able to operate Motor Vehicles, radios, and public works equipment.
  • Must be able to wear Protective Equipment, such as: Hard hat, safety glasses, and other OSHA approved safety devices as required.
