South Texas College of Law Houston is Hiring a Senior Director, Legal Services Near Houston, TX

SUMMARY 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Support design and implementation of unified operational processes within all clinics providing client services within the Randall O. Sorrels Legal Clinics and exercise supervisory authority over administrative matters related to those clinics in order to further the dual mission of the law school’s clinical program, service to the community and excellent legal education. Other duties may be assigned.

Comply with all aspects of the law school’s Customer Service Standards.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

·Review current clinical department business processes, identify opportunities to increase operational and financial efficiencies, and implement changes as needed

·Review current clinical department processes, identify opportunities to increase quality of service and adherence to highest professional standards, and collaborate with the Associate Dean for Experiential Education to implement staff training and development

·Review current clinical department processes and monitor personnel allocation to ensure compliance with relevant grant and funding requirements

·Collaborate with Associate Dean for Experiential Education and relevant faculty committees to identify educational opportunities that address identified community needs and areas for expansion of experiential education programs

·Collaborate with relevant members of the Advancement/Philanthropy department and the Associate Dean for Experiential Education to identify potential funding opportunities, both governmental and private foundations

·Collaborate with relevant members of the Advancement/Philanthropy department, Accounting Services, Human Resources, and the Associate Dean for Experiential Education to support funding applications and reports, including data collection and compliance requirements

·Provide strategic recommendations to STCL Houston Marketing and Communications department to identify opportunities and development of clinic publicity and media

·In partnership with the Associate Dean for Experiential Education identify opportunities for student-centered pro bono service opportunities building on existing programs

·Provide direct oversight and mentorship to attorneys, paralegals, coordinators and other staff providing or supporting direct client services in the Randall O. Sorrels Legal Clinics

·In partnership with the Associate Dean for Experiential Education, develop clinic program budget

Must be professional and confidential of all department data and correspondence.The person must have a poised and professional image; strong ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast paced environment, excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively and efficiently with all employees, visitors and students while projecting a positive image for the area and law school. Service oriented with ability to make all visitors feel welcome. Must be computer literate with proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) with ability to learn new programs as necessary.Must be detail-oriented and able to work in a fast-paced multi-tasking environment. 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Licensed to practice in Texas or eligible for admission to the Texas Bar by reciprocity.
  • Prior family law, probate and public benefits law experience preferred.
  • Five to seven years prior public interest or volunteer experience serving low- income persons preferred.
  • Five years practice experience essential.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Proficient in both spoken and written English. Ability to interpret and explain complex data. Ability to effectively and professionally communicate in one-on-one and small group situations to students, alumni, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to perform basic to intermediate math essential. Must possess the ability to analyze numerical data and detect patterns, errors and trends.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define routine problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions to solve routine problems and/or deal with a variety of variables in situations, especially when department head may be out of office or unavailable. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Extremely fast paced, multi-tasking, non-smoking work environment.Must be able to work the general business schedule of the law school (9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.) plus occasional evenings and weekends as necessary.
