    Primary Purpose:
    Work with school faculty and staff, students, parents, and community to plan, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive developmental guidance and counseling program at school assigned. The School Counselor will provide educational career, social, and personal guidance and counseling for all students.
    Qualifications:
    Education/Certification:
      Master’s degree
      Valid Texas School Counselor Certificate
      Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the employee
    Special Knowledge/Skills:
      Knowledge of counseling procedures, student appraisal, and career development
      Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
    Experience:
      Minimum two (2) years teaching experience
    Major Responsibilities and Duties:
    Guidance
    • Plans, organizes, and implements campus developmental guidance curriculum consistent with district’s guidance program plan and tailored to campus needs.
    • Assist teachers in the teaching of guidance-related curriculum.
    • Guides individuals and groups of students and parents to develop education plans, career awareness, and personal/social development.
    Counseling
    • Uses accepted theories and effective techniques to provide individual/group developmental, preventive, remedial and/or crisis counseling.
    Consultation
    • Consult with parents, school personnel, and other community members to help them increase the effectiveness of student education and promote student success.
    • Maintain a communication system that effectively collects and disseminates information to other professionals as appropriate.
    • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with other school professionals and representatives of community resources.
    Coordination
    • Coordinates people and other resources in the school, home, and community to promote student success.
    • Uses an effective process when referring students, parents, and/or others to special programs and services.
    Student Assessment
    • Participate in planning and evaluation of campus standardized testing program.
    • Interpret tests and other appraisal results appropriately and communicate to school personnel, students, and their parents in an effort to guide students in individual goal setting and planning.
    • Adheres to legal, ethical, and professional standards related to the assessment.
    Program Management
    • Plan school guidance and counseling programs to ensure that they meet identified needs, priorities, and program objectives.
    • Implement a comprehensive and balanced program.
    • Collaborates with school personnel, students, parents, and the community to plan, implement, evaluate, and promote continuous improvement of a developmental guidance and counseling program.
    • Advocates the school developmental guidance and counseling program, and counselors’ ethical and professional standards with school personnel, parents, student, and community.
    • Compile, maintain, and file all required physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents.
    Professional Standards and Behavior
    • Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and board policy in guidance and counseling area.
    • Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.
    • Maintain a positive and effective relationship with supervisors.
    • Communicate effectively with colleagues, students, and parents.
    • Adhere to ethical and legal standards and model behavior that is professional, and responsible.
    • Participate in professional development to improve skills related to job assignment.

    Working Conditions: Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
      Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment
      Posture: Prolonged sitting; frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
      Motion: Frequent walking
      Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds)
      Environment: Work inside, may work outside
      Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; may work prolonged or irregular hours
