Our Opportunity

South Puget Sound Community College (SPSCC) seeks student applicants for the position of International Student Services Ambassador.
Schedule Information:
  • 10 - 19 hours per week
  • Commit to a year-long position
  • Must be available for fall student leadership training in early September
  • Must be available for all New International Student Orientations which are scheduled the week before classes begin each quarter:
-Fall 2024 New International Student Orientation - Sept. 11 - 12
-Winter 2025 New International Student Orientation - Jan. 2
-Spring 2025 New International Student Orientation - April 2 - 3
Educational Benefit:
ISS Ambassador's primary role is one that focuses on community building, engagement, leadership, guidance, and mentorship necessary to support student academic success. Ambassadors utilize existing SPSCC resources to empower students to take control of their educational experience and ultimately achieve their academic goals. As an ISS Ambassador, you will gain valuable leadership, organizational, time management, and problem solving skills that are transferable to future educational experiences and/or career paths.

What You'll Do

International Student Services (ISS) Student Ambassador Description: Student would assist in the daily operations of International Student Services. ISS has a strong commitment to the principles and values of international education, diversity and inclusion, and to maintaining working and learning environments that reinforces these practices. ISS Ambassadors will provide direct professional assistance to the ISS team and support the recruitment and retention of international students to SPSCC. This includes serving in the capacity of being the “first impression” and “setting the tone” of International Student Services with all visitors to the office (students, faculty, administrators, international partners).
This includes:

  • Ambassadors will empower international students through personalized one-on-one mentoring, social engagement, and connections with campus resources.
  • Greet all visitors warmly, politely, and professionally, and assist in staffing the welcome desk, answering and directing phone calls; and basic questions and/or make appropriate referrals to campus resources/offices
  • Assist in monitoring and restocking-needs of office supplies
  • Assist with administrative work as needed; this may include maintaining spreadsheets; filing documents, copying or scanning documents
  • Assist in keeping the ISS Office and Student Engagement suite professional in its appearance and clean
  • Support international student recruitment and marketing
  • Ambassadors will cultivate a supportive community where students can thrive academically, socially, and culturally by planning events, and fostering meaningful relationships and provide comprehensive support

Qualifications You Possess

  • Maintain cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • Must be a current student at SPSCC
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills
  • Must be self-motivated, independent, and comfortable speaking publicly
  • Must be punctual, accountable, and responsible
  • Must have time management, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of SPSCC resources, activities, and pathways
  • Experience with studying abroad or knowledge of issues that international students face
  • Must be interested in growing as a leader
  • Have previously attended International Student Services or Student Life CAB events, meetings, or programs
  • Second year (minimum 45 academic credit hours completed) students are preferred
