This position reports directly to the Director of Student Life.

What You'll Do

Positions Available:ASB President, Vice President of Finance, Vice President of Clubs and Organizations, Senator of Communications, Senator of Diversity and Equity Affairs, and Senator of Legislative Affairs. There is one position per each role listed below.

ASB President Job Description ($16.78/Hr.): An official representative of the Associated Student Body (ASB). Maintains a close working relationship with the Dean of Student Engagement and Retention and serves as liaison to the College Administration.

  • Presides at Senate meetings.
  • Votes only in case of a tie.
  • Provides leadership and support to the Senate to ensure completion of tasks.
  • Acts as an official representative of the ASB-SPSCC Student Senate.
  • Appoints all student representatives to College councils, boards and committees.
  • Maintains one-on-one weekly meetings with each Senate member.
  • Attends all regularly scheduled Board of Trustees meetings
  • Assists in Clipper Coffee Corner, Food Pantry, as needed

Vice President of Finance Job Description (16.53/Hr.): The financial officer for the Student Senate. Maintains a record for the Senate of all expenditures and balances of their accounts. In the absence of the President, will take on the responsibilities of the President.

  • Is the financial officer for the Student Senate and prepares annual budget requests.
  • In the absence of the President, will take on the responsibilities of the President.
  • Works with the Student Senate advisor to develop and promote the S&A Fee budget schedule and establishment of S&A Fee Budget Committee as outlined in the Services and Activities Financial Code.
  • Maintains a record for the Senate on all expenditures and balances of its accounts and presents
  • report at each Student Senate meeting.
  • Administers paperwork for the budget process.
  • Serves as the Chair for the Finance Committee and the S&A Budget Committee.
  • Appoints up to seven (7) voting students to serve on the S&A Budget Committee.
  • Maintains a close working relationship with their designated advisor.
  • Reviews all requests for funds from Contingency and the appropriate use of S&A fees.
  • Assists in Clipper Coffee Corner, Food Pantry, as needed

Vice President of Clubs & Organizations Job Description (16.28/Hr.): A liaison between the Senate and each chartered club and organization on campus. Assists in the promotion of clubs and organizations and in the coordination of events and activities provided for the ASB. Serves as the Chairperson for the monthly Club Round-table meetings.

  • Serves as a liaison between the Senate and each chartered club and organization on campus.
  • Maintains current clubs’ and organizations’ charter information recognized by the College included but not limited to a list of all club and organization officers and advisors.
  • Is responsible for chairing planning, scheduling and notifying clubs of all round-table meetings, which shall meet two (2) times per quarter.
  • Assists in the promotion of clubs and organizations to the Student Body of the College and maintains the Clubs & Organizations posting boards.
  • Serves as the Chair for the Rules Committee.
  • Is responsible for the planning, promotion, and implementation of Club Fair
  • Assists in Clipper Coffee Corner, Food Pantry, as needed

Senator of Communications Job Description (16.28/Hr.): Facilitates the promotion of Senate operations/events and all other areas of interest and concern and maintains the Student LIFE Hub on Canvas. Provides administrative support to the Student Senate. Prepares agendas and minutes of Senate meetings.

  • Works with the ASB President and College Relations on all press releases, articles to appear in the student newspaper, and newsletters, which serve to inform readers of Student Senate business.
  • Is responsible for the promotion of Senate operations and events, as well as the promotion of other events of student interest and concern, including but not limited to classroom visits, flyers, digital signage, tabling etc.
  • Is responsible for posting any Senate position vacancies in accordance with College policies.
  • Maintains the Student Senate website and the Student Life Canvas Hub.
  • e. Prepares the official minutes, agenda, and records of all Student Senate meetings. Minutes from a Senate meeting must go out to all Senate members and the Student Senate advisor(s) within three (3) business days of the meeting for comment.
  • All corrections must be submitted at least one day prior to the next senate meeting. Corrected minutes must be provided to all Senate members and the Student Senate advisor(s) at the beginning of the next Senate meeting for approval.
  • Serves as liaison for communication updates in Clipper Coffee Corner
  • Assists in Clipper Coffee Corner, Food Pantry, as needed

Senator of Diversity and Equity Affairs Job Description (16.28/Hr): Serves as the main point of contact for the SPSCC Food Pantry. Also serves as liaison representing multicultural interests between the ASB, Student Senate and the College Administration. This Senator keeps the ASB aware of any multicultural workshops, conferences and leadership training opportunities, as well as assisting in the promotion of multicultural, multi-ethnic and diversity awareness on campus.

  • Represents diversity interests, communicating with the associated student body of SPSCC, the Student Senate, and the College Administration.
  • Serves as a member of the SPSCC Diversity and Equity Advisory Committee to provide student input on campus diversity issues.
  • Is responsible for providing and promoting diversity and equity-related educational events and conference opportunities to the Student Body
  • Meets with the Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and/or the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Center (DEIC) Program Coordinator at least twice a quarter; while communicating with; the DEIC Team; and other stakeholders as necessary in order to fulfill position requirements.
  • Assesses existing services (website, Student Senate Canvas Hub, programs, Student Services, etc.) and events for lack of representation or under-representation of specific student populations.
  • Oversees all Senate equity projects including but not limited to the Food Pantry
  • Organize quarterly drives in partnership with the Personal Support Center
  • Assists in Clipper Coffee Corner, Food Pantry, as needed

Senator of Legislative Affairs Job Description (16.28/Hr.): Keeps the ASB aware of all legislative actions that affect higher education and motivates the ASB to take action toward informing the legislature of students’ needs, desires and priorities regarding higher education.

  • Works with the Student Senate and Student Senate advisor on all legislative affairs.
    Keeps the general Student Body aware of all legislative actions that affect higher education.
    Works to motivate the Student Body to take action towards informing the legislature of students' needs, desires, and priorities concerning higher education.
    Serves as the SPSCC Delegate for the Washington Community and Technical College Student Association.
    Works on the development and implementation of College Civics Week.
    Maintains contact with other schools regarding legislative affairs.
    Shall receive preference in being appointed the Senate’s parliamentarian.
    Performs annual review of ASB Bylaws and Constitution with Vice President of Clubs and Organizations
    Assists in Clipper Coffee Corner, Food Pantry, as needed

Qualifications You Possess

  • Currently enrolled student
  • Enrolled in minimum 6 credits each quarter
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.5 of higher
  • Commit to a year-long position
  • Commit to fall training starting August 26th, 2024

Hourly non-permanent employees accrue vacation, sick, personal holiday, personal leave, and holiday credit.
