Water Resources Engineer

Position Description 

The South Metro Water Supply Authority (SMWSA) is seeking a full-time Water Resources Engineer to assist with coordinating operations of water supply systems, oversight of the design and construction of water projects, and assist with water supply planning. This position will help implement SMWSA’s regional renewable water projects including the WISE (Water Infrastructure and Supply Efficiency) Partnership. This position offers a unique opportunity to work in a multitude of technical disciplines. SMWSA supports its employees to grow and use skills in multiple aspects of water resources. 

Primary Duties 

This position will have the following duties. In some cases, this position will lead these efforts and in other cases, will assist other team members. 

• Review infrastructure design drawings and specifications
• Conduct onsite construction oversight 
• Coordinate system operation and repairs 
• Assist with hydraulic modeling 
• Develop and asset management systems and oversight 
• Assist with water quality management and planning, regulatory compliance, easement protection 
• Assist WISE Project planning and operations, as related to: 
• Administering and scheduling water deliveries 
• Preparing water delivery reports 

Education and Experience 

• Education - Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, Water Resources Management, Hydrology, Construction Management, or related field. 
• Experience – 0 to 3 years 
• Certifications – EI or PE preferred, but not required

Desired Skills 

Implementing SMWSA projects will require the following skills. Candidates are not expected to have experience in all of these areas. However, the ideal candidate will have experience in some of the following areas and be able to articulate how they will use the position to grow professionally and develop new skills. 

• Professional written and verbal communication skills 
• Project management / project delivery (budget/schedule/quality control) 
• Map and graphics production (GIS Systems) 
• Knowledge of groundwater and aquifer storage and recovery 
• Experience with computer software including Microsoft Office based programs 
• Database management and design 
• Data collection and analysis 
• Understanding of Colorado water law 
• Permitting and regulatory compliance at state, local, and federal levels 
• Water systems planning (Hydraulics, facility sizing, water quality, system controls, water accounting, water demand planning and conservation) 
• Construction management and oversight 
• Experience with development and management of water supply models to optimize operations and infrastructure 

Compensation 

SMWSA offers a highly competitive salary and benefits program and an environment conducive to professional growth and work-life balance. The starting salary range is $60,000-$75,000.
