Job Summary/Accountabilities:

Performs major refinishing, including sandblasting and painting, of structure gates and ancillary parts weighing from 7,000 to approximately 16,000 pounds per gate. Utilizes hand tools, power tools, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment. Must be able to operate a blast hose and spray gun.

Education/Experience Guide

Typically has High School Diploma or GED and 2 years’ experience in sandblasting, corrosion removal and painting of surfaces using abrasive-laden compressed air, water, or other compounds.

Physical Requirements/Working Environment:

Due to the District's response role and in the total scope of emergency management, this position may at times, be required to provide support before, during and after major storm events and emergency situations, such as hurricanes or other declared emergencies, depending on assigned emergency response role. Primarily works inside the maintenance support facility which houses the blasting and painting booths. Incumbents perform work while wearing a blast or paint suit and hood inside the enclosed paint or special designed rooms for painting or blast work for extended periods of time. High level of noise from air compressor, blasting hose or spray gun, drill press operations and welding.

Overtime will be required based on weather and/or environmental conditions. Due to the District's response role before, during, and after major storm events and in the total scope of emergency management, this position may be, at times, required to provide work support before, during, and after major storm events and emergency situations, such as hurricanes or other declared emergencies.

Regularly sets up, adjusts, controls, tests, and operates equipment to complete assignments. Work environment may be hot and humid with no facilities. Moves or otherwise transports equipment weighing up to 50 pounds or more.

Licenses:

Ability to obtain certification in Rigging, Forklift Operations, First Response- Oil and Chemical Spills, CPR and First Aid. Valid State of Florida Driver's License.
