The Registered radiographer performs independently and with self-initiative under indirect supervision. They are required to perform a variety of duties within their realm of knowledge and training to produce diagnostic radiographs at a technical level maintaining a high standard of patient care and confidentiality.
Education: Completion of an AMA approved radiology program.
Licensure: Current (permanent or temporary) Mississippi State Board of Health Medical Radiation Technologist license.
Registered Technologist (R.T.) under the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) or registry eligible upon completion of Radiology Program (must pass Registry within 60 days of hire).
Valid Driver's License.
Certification: Current CPR/BLS certification
Duties and responsibilities:
The registered radiographer is expected to practice safe procedures and adhere to radiation safety measures at all times. Specific duties may include but are not limited to:
ï§ Performing ordered exams per department and SCRMC policy and procedure.
ï§ Verifying physician orders ensuring ordering provider, exam, and diagnosis is appropriate.
ï§ Verifying identity of patient prior to performing exam.
ï§ Practicing and encouraging teamwork within the department, the hospital, physicians and all SCRMC facilities.
ï§ Displaying accountability for tasks assigned to them.
ï§ Assisting radiologists/ physicians as needed.
ï§ Participating in educational opportunities in use of new equipment and/ or procedures.
ï§ Completion of necessary paperwork and/or computer functions.
ï§ Transporting radiology patients as needed.
ï§ Adhering to department and SCRMC policy and procedures and SCRMC Performance Standards.
ï§ Handling of trauma patients according to policy and procedure.
ï§ Evaluation of images for technical quality, correct orientation and patient identification.
ï§ Portable radiography-within hospital and at LTC facilities.
ï§ Keeping area clean, neat, safe and stocked with needed supplies.
ï§ Adhering to safety, radiation and infection control policies.
ï§ Instructs and evaluates student radiographers.
ï§ Assists in training of new employees and cross-training
ï§ Assisting in all areas of the department as needed.
ï§ Reporting outcome of duties to radiology supervisor or team leader.
ï§ Participating in Quality Improvement.
ï§ Displaying proficiency in operation of imaging equipment, RIS, CR=s and laser printers in assigned area.
ï§ Explains procedure and availability of report to patient.
ï§ Assists radiologists in the performance of exams.
ï§ Administers IV contrast using sterile technique. Documents contrast use.
ï§ Assists in scheduling of radiology exams.
Essential Functions:
ï§ Demonstrate an understanding of human anatomy, physiology, pathology and medical terminology as related to their education level.
ï§ Maintain a high degree of accuracy in radiographic positioning and exposure technique.
ï§ Use professional and ethical judgement and critical thinking when performing their duties.
ï§ Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
ï§ Participates in continuing education and learning experiences to enhance and maintain current knowledge and skills for continued competence.
ï§ Ability to work as a team member.
ï§ Skilled in the operation of radiography equipment.
ï§ Attention to detail.
ï§ Basic understanding of computer technology.
ï§ Perform all duties using proper body mechanics
ï§ Frequently move/lift patients and equipment, depending on assignment requirements.
ï§ Stand for long periods with frequent squatting, twisting, bending, kneeling and reaching to prepare equipment, materials or objects in order to provide patient care or maintain the patient environment
ï§ Manual dexterity and fine motor coordination.
ï§ Ability to work in a stressful environment.
ï§ Ability to follow directions/instructions from his/her supervisor.
ï§ Consistent attendance is required to assure that the client facilities' needs and patient needs are met.
ï§ To comply with all of the facilities' policies, procedures and practices.
Working conditions:
The Registered Technologist must understand and accept the possibility of exposure to inside environmental conditions, such as radiation, noise, infectious/communicable diseases, blood and blood borne diseases, chemicals and/or chemical fumes, odors, gases and dusts. Frequent exposures to distressed patients, families or visitors.
Schedules:
Dependent on the position available for hire, possible schedules may include but are not limited to:
12 hour day shifts
12 hour night shifts
8 hour day shifts w/wo call
10 hour day shifts
